Oregon hunt brings rain, wind, and antlers (pics added) (second buck added)

In town for supplies, so though I would let you all know we had a blast opening day of Oregon deer season 2013. We have antlers, but limited cell signal. Be patient, I will post a pic asap!

Well attempt to post #3...lol, 1x signal, even around town. opening morning found my son and I in a familiar spot I like on opening morning. At day break, we watched a few cow elk walking across a crp field heading toward the timber. Bulls were screaming in all directions.

Around 9am, my son was a little chilly from the cold, damp morning. A quick phone call to my wife to meet us at the timber gate to pick up my little hunting buddy. our mile hike out began, mostly all down hill. along the way, we found a nice looking 5pt bull shed. Upon reaching the gate, we agreed Iwould contact them if I was able to fill my tag. I had no idea how soon I would make that call, or that the buck would be my best whitetail by far.....

That's a pretty smart looking huntin partner you have there.    Reminds me of when I was a little shaver tagging along with my dad. Good memories.

I walked up our two rut "road" 3/4 of a mile, and viered off on a cattle trail that goes be below the edge of the timber and the crp. it is thick with small pines in places, and has produced good numbers of deer sightings in the past. As I still hunted along, some light brown caught my eye up through the pines on the side of the hill, deer! I raised my .270, and see antler coming up out of the well hidden animals head. Down goes the .270, and up goes the binos. YUP! Its a buck.....most of the antlers were hidden by small pines. Back up comes the .270, the crosshairs settle in tight behind the left shoulder through a small window in the trees.......POW!

POW he killed it. Pretty nice white tail, I think. It was nice to see the pictures on Saturday morning.

This meat hunter was not prepared to see what the falling of the buck reviled. For me, a great buck fell dead in his tracks. I immediately began thanking God, and taking in what I was seeing up ahead. he is a 4x5 with some kickers. A Pennsylvania 11pt. Soon my family was on the scene, and many photos were taken of a happy hunter and family.
