Montana 07 (huntnphool)
« on: November 17, 2007, 09:31:45 PM »
Returned home from Montana at 2:00 am, drove strait through from Sheridan, WY. We had an awsome time and all of us scored on great bucks. I took almost 500 pics while over there and will post some tomorrow if I get a chance. Here is a pic of the first buck dropped on the first day over there. We forgot to pack the camera so didn't get any pics of this one while in the field but took a couple in the back of the car.

Okay we are heading to Cabelas for lunch, I have a craving for an elk deli sammy :P  I will post some more pics when I get back but until then, here is a buck we missed. Shot right under the belly at 40 yards, then again at 45 yards. This should keep you in suspense till I get back online. ;)

We were trying to get everything archery hunting for the first couple days but then turned to rifles the rest of the time. Here is the same buck from the side.

Here is the second buck we got. He has pretty good mass, 5 1/2" bases.

This is the 3rd buck dropped on our trip. 35-40 mph gusts made us crawl up within 105 yards to make sure of a good shot. I stayed back and took pics while Jim and Waid made the stock. After Jim dropped him they drug it to the truck, I got out and walked to the back and saw Jim stnding there with his pants down in 25 degree temps blus wind. I asked him what he was doing and Waid started laughing. It seems Jim crawled through a cactus during the stock, he was picking the 20 or so needles he had in his thigh :chuckle:

Here is my buck. We made a long stock on this deer only to have his does bust us and they all shot strait down a draw at full speed. I dropped to a knee, steadied the 7mm on my sticks, and squeezed. He took a nose dive at full speed and tumbled the rest of the way to the bottom of the draw. When we got to him he had broken off his right side main beam and G4, and chipped his left side brow tine. Hes still a nice wide buck and will go nicely with the spuds and gravy.

Great job thanks for posting the pictures. I take it they were in the rut over there. Must have been private land you were hunting. I hunted down by there one time on a guy ranch I met a couple years before that. Congrats again

We hunt a 24,000 acre ranch south of Miles City that a friend owns. Yes they were rutting hard even though it was 71 degrees for several days we were there. The bucks had their noses buried the entire time.

Thanks guys, we had a blast. We had several hundred deer to look at each day. Every morning we got out there it was like someone hit the refresh button over night, there were several new bucks to check out and pattern. Here are a couple more we looked over.
