Springbok and Gemsbok mounts
« on: June 12, 2009, 09:17:04 AM »
A couple more mounts from my trip.  Posting these as I have time.

First one is a gemsbok, second is a springbok.  The Springbok horns had some white streaks in them (you can see them in the field photos too-just with all the dirt and such on them the streaks are not as pronounced as they are post boiling and treating).  The taxidermist asked if I wanted them tinted black to match the rest of the horn.  I elected for the natural shade.  I am not sure if I like the white or not.  I may tint them later-still on the fence.

FYI, here are a couple field photos I have with the stats for the animal.

My gemsbok represented the second worst shooting in my life.  8 shots.  sheesh.  I have the full story and I'll post it sometime when I get a moment.  Worst shooting of my life was my first deer.  That was a royal debacle.

Even though I took 8 shots to down the gemsbok, my overall average shots per animal on this trip was 2.11 over a 9 animal spread.  (if I had only taken 2 shots to down him my average would have been 1.44!!)
