On purpose or by accident?

I looked right past a blacktail spike in the timber and stalked in real close, didn't know he was there. Must have been bedded down next to a large fir tree. I kept creeping into the woods and he stood up about 10 feet from me. Scared the crap out of both of us. Neck shot (was aiming for the head) and grab your skinning knife...

A couple of years ago I watched a herd of elk step into a red twig dogwood patch to feed, and I snuck down into the bushes with them and shot a big cow as she stepped around the bushes at 5 yards or less with my bow using my fingers since the release was back at camp. TALK ABOUT A RUSH!!!

Close enough for archery gear. M-Ray took the first pic while I was getting close, the second pic is what I got when he stood.

I have had deer on several occasions feed on the branches that I had just cut out of the tree that I was sitting in less than a couple of feet below me.  My first ever archery kill was a blacktail buck at under 3 feet.  It was in a driving rain storm and I used an old growth fir to block me as I snuck up to it.  He closed the final 10 feet right up to the tree where I literally could have stabbed him with an arrow.  When I shot the arrow went through him and into the ground on the other side.  Only four or five inches of the arrow was sticking out of the ground.
