Shotgun handy for Yakima man with burglars
Three men tried to break into a home west of Yakima while the resident was home.
The Yakima County sheriff's office says he was on the phone to a dispatcher Sunday when a brick came through the window.
The homeowner armed himself with a shotgun as the would-be burglar entered the house. When he saw the gun, the intruder jumped into a getaway car. It sped off with the homeowner firing three shots at the car. The third suspect fled on foot.
A sheriff's deputy and Union Gap police stopped and arrested two men in the car. A Washington State Patrol trooper arrested the third man.

Shooting at the car as it speeds away is not the best move. No harm came to the home owner, and it would appear that he was not under attack at that time. Injuring or killing an attempted burglar once they've left the property is only going to spell hot water for the home owner.
But yes, cycling the slide of a semi-auto pistol, racking the action of a lever gun, cycling the action of a pump shotgun within earshot of a burglar is usually going to produce exudous of bad guy. Not always though.

JackOfAllTrades is correct. You can not use deadly force if you do not actually believe that you or others are in imminent danger of being killed or seriously injured.

Not sure I'd want to bank on that out in the Wenas. I can see you 800 yards plus from my front porch. Throw a brick through my window you better be able to run really really fast. Kinda hard to press charges if the coyotes and magpies are pickin your bones clean.
He was just making a point to them so they didn't come back.

one thing to remember, dead people do not testify...then when the police come, silence is golden...not a word except I would like a lawyer..Period not a word spoke to anyone..This is not a bad statement against the police, but they must report anything you say....when your lips start moving you might be convicting yourself...

I have said it before, the best burglar alarm would be the one that sounds like a pump gun loading a shell. it does not matter if you are a dirt bag gang banger or the pope..........you know that sound means trouble.
I am sure the HO shot at the rig because he was afraid they were gonna run him over.......wink

This brings to mind a phrase somebody coined years ago:
God made man - Smith and Wesson made them equal.

Reading your post, Bone, made me think of several scenes from Quigley Down Under. Might have to rent that movie again one of these days.
