Dead On Range Finder?
« on: August 16, 2010, 01:47:16 PM »
Just wondering how many people have used this range finder method while hunting? I put it on my bow last year and even though I didn't use it when I shot my Elk it was still nice to have just in case.

Ive used that method for years but just use my pins, no add-on parts.

Looks cool. Just have to remember not to get an itchy trigger finger when getting the first reading. I could seem myself having a major brain fart and letting loose when getting my range.  :bash: I am not good at two step processes.  :chuckle:

Thanks for the info. I might actually reseach this a bit. Looks very interesting.

i installed one after last years debacle of leaving my rangefinder in the truck a couple of times.... cost me a NICE 4 point!  i've checked it with a 17" stick out to 40 yards, and it's within maybe a half inch.  should work!

It's been a while since the last post on this thread but I found a link with some information relevant to these types of range finders. They work on the average chest size ( :IBCOOL:) (can't wait to hear the comments on that one) of the animals. The link to the article is: http://www.chuckhawks.com/kill_zone_game_animals.htm. There is some interesting reading in the article. Just in case that link goes dead I'll include the dimensions on North American game animals:

Pronghorn antelope.................= 14"-15"
Small deer...............................= 14"-15"
Medium size deer.....................= 17"-18"
Large deer...............................= 18"-20"
North American wild sheep.......= 20"-22"
Mountain goat.........................= 22"-24"
Caribou...................................= 24"-26"
Elk...........................................= 24"-26"
Moose......................................= 30"-36"

Happy hunting!

You can do this with the pins you already have.
FOR FREE!!

All you have to do is line up on a 18" target and see where if fits in your pins at the ranges you shoot.

On mine,at 20 yards a deer takes up all the pins,at 30 it takes up from the 30 pin down and so on.

And an elk would be 24" average right?

Did someone already mention all this? :dunno:
