Predator Hunting collective
« on: October 13, 2010, 03:12:37 PM »
I think we should start a collective info thread, any great reads online, well informed info, well created how to videos, all online and free.  Since there is a lot of questioning that is repetitive (me included) we might as well have something that gets most if not all the basics in one spot. Make it look presentable, i don't want random videos of kills that is anything anyone can look up, but anything that is informative of predator hunting (mostly will be coyotes, cats).

Its a waste of time for people to look around  the internet and find useless posts, so anything you may have stumbled across that was well informative or proof of concept link it.  typing in info is great but would rather have links to other sites stuff that someone else has not read yet, i have yet to read everything but a lot of it yes.  I don't know where to start but i guess this is just a bit of it.  Please post stuff you have read and thought was helpful, or a helpful link, google-ing coyote hunting or predator hunting doesn't really help since most people can find that easy enough but maybe something a little different, or just good easy basic stuff that is right to the point

I am not discrediting field time and hunting time at all, you need as much as possible but when the weather is bad/ season is over/ or just cant got out reading is great.

Predator Quest show.

Bucking the odds videos.  These are very entertaining videos, IMO.  They leave in everything to even the mistakes, like using tracer rounds on coyotes and lighting a field on fire.  :yike:

The difference between dog and cat tracks.  A lot of people have trouble with this.

Truer words were never spoken.  That is the main reason I would leave predatormasters off this list.  There is so much commentary that you can't sift the good tips from the bad.  I would refer you to this site which has a lot of smart coyote hunters and less of the knowitall newbies which like to throw out regurgitated info.

http://www.predatorprofessionals.com/  There is one other forum, that a few of us are members of, that truly has some of the best information in the sport, but I keep that one to myself.  You have ot be thick skinned and willing to defend your position on coyote behavior and hunting.  Some internet research will get you there, but I don't want anyone to whine to whine to me that they got hammered for basic questions based on my recommendations that they join.   :chuckle:

Sivart, thanks for the post.

I've listened to five talkcasts hosted by Brian Downs and two of them in particular were really excellent:
Episode 6 with Terry Denmon from Mojo and
Episode 25 with Al Morris, three time winner of the World Coyote Calling Competition.

It's easy to download the episodes and copy them onto CD's. My buddy and I listened to them on our way over to Eastern Washington this weekend and they really helped improve our coyote hunting skills.
