Project Canvasback Mount Completed!
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:47:13 PM »
Put the wraps on this bird this weekend with the final touches to the base.  Don't take too much note of where it is for the picture.  It was pulled out to the edge a little for the pictures.  That's just a temporary spot until I find the right location in my house.  This one is a legacy mount for my old bird dog.  She is near the end of her career so I wanted a good bird mounted up that she retrieved.  The wood used in the mount came from the banks of the Snohomish river.  Here's a picture of the day we took the bird and then different angles of the finished product.  Don't be too critical, this is the only bird I've ever done myself.  All others I've had done for me.  I think it turned out good.

LOL, Thanks for all the kind words guys.  It'll be a long time before I do another bird.  It'll likely have to be a similar situation where something sentimental tells me I need to do it.  There was a lot of hand wringing done over this.  I did take my time and am happy with the result.  I catch my old lab just staring at the bird from time to time.  I think she remembers getting it.
