I can't believe this group is gaining momentum to expand the North Cascades National Park.

 Can't believe it..Why? Look where we live. What I found hard to believe was that all of the comments were surprisingly (considering the area they were coming from) against  the Proposal  Jackson wrote about. Did HE really write it, or did they just say he did since  he is who he is.

Surprising that all the comments so far I am in complete agreement with, being they are coming from pugetropolis, the restriction, and protection capital of the world. Do these folks want to tell us where someone has the dozers idling at the borders of these proposed areas threatening them?

Leaders in 1968 were a better breed than we have now and they did understand compromise.The Greenies and Do Gooders just waited 40+ years and are still trying to force their ideas on the rest of us

I read where only "bear" hunters will loose some hunting areas. The rest of us can still hunt, right? WRONG! would be nice if folks wouldn't publish half truths and hope no one notices

I just read in the Wenatchee World that they have dropped the proposal to add more land to this park. The said the mountain bikers were dead set against this proposal. Sorry I don't how to add on the link.

Recently, a movement titled the American Alps Project has been coming up in the news more and more, most recently I read an article (http://heraldnet.com/article/20110925/OPINION03/709259983) regarding the project that concerned me very much.

The American Alps Project is trying to add an additional 227,000 acres to the already problematic North Cascades National Park which in turn would not only disturb our economy but also strictly limit access to a huge portion of the remaining "free use" wilderness available in our state. 

The North Cascades National Park is a large National Park along the Canadian border that does very little for the state as far as tourism revenue but strictly limits user access to one of the most economically advantageous user groups: hunters.  The North Cascades National Park simply acts as a large wilderness area with very little advantage in tourism due to lack of road access and almost no campgrounds for tourists to enjoy and use.  Unlike other large National Parks like Yellowstone, Glacier, or Yosemite, the North Cascades National Park seems to be in place primarily to preserve a large wilderness area.  Unfortunately, due to the National Park designation, hunting is completely eliminated in the largest chunk of wilderness in Washington State.  Recent economic research has shown that hunters often bring over two thousand dollars per elk or deer to a local economy during a given hunting season.  By making NCNP a National Park, any potential hunting economic advantage has been erased without creating any significant increase in tourism.  The same wilderness protection could have been given to the North Cascades area without ever turning it into a National Park.

The American Alps Project is looking to expand the North Cascades National Park even farther by adding a quarter million acres to it.  This would do nothing except further limit hunting opportunities and decrease the amount of wilderness available to hunters throughout the space.  I strongly urge you to vote against any legislation that would create an even larger dead space of wilderness that does nothing except limit certain outdoor user groups and increase fees for climbers, hikers, and backpackers (through backcountry permits) who want to use the country.

Only Methow Valley portions of the park.  We still need to fight to get this entire project derailed!

What good are National Parks? They want to preserve it, make it wilderness. We sure don't need any more National Parks. All that does is eliminate hunting. I don't get it. What's the point?

Agree Bobcat.  The national parks tend to be more restrictive than plain old wilderness.  They don't allow hunting, dogs, very little horse access/use, way overstaffed, charge for whatever they can, have rangers over your shoulder for every little thing, can't manage mountain goats, and seem to attract way more people.  Seems if the greenies really wanted fewer people/development they would push for wilderness and not parks.  Something about the designation 'Park' attracts the masses whereas 'wilderness' doesn't.
