I don't have a link. I've read about wolves being present on the Olympic Peninsula back in the 1800's and possibly the early 1900's.

Sorry.  It was a joke; you talking about literally hearing something about 80 years before the internet, and the response was to request a link, to your physically hearing something.  nvrmnd.  I'll go back to the pot thread now and see if I can't get a second hand smoke effect.

Below is a link to a map on wdfw's website showing wolf sightings.  A few sightings are shown on the Oly Pen.  I'm skeptical though.......I won't say it is impossible.........(I mean Wolf Haven could have dropped them off anywhere, right).

Wolves were historically present in the Olympic Peninsula.  An interesting reference comes from Chris Morgenroth, an early ranger on the Peninsula.  In his book, "Footprints in the Olympics: An Autobiography", he describes being treed by wolves, and creatively escaped the situation with well-thrown rocks.

Interesting. Did he find the rocks up in the tree? Was he carrying rocks for protection at the time?

Well, Piano, I didn't want to spoil the story for prospective readers.  But he was treed for a while, and when the wolves (male and female) backed off a distance, Morgenroth descended. He picked up a pocketful of good-sized rocks, and began a strategic retreat, throwing rocks at intervals.  Eventually the wolves departed, and Morgenroth hiked out.

rock throwing is a lost art, kids back in the day could literally hunt just by throwing rocks.

They were in the area at least until the 1930's.  One of the hunters I kind of know has had family in the area since around the 1850/60's.  One ancestor had a farm south of Sequim in the Palo Alto Rd/Happy Valley area.  The guy went looking for some missing sheep sometime in the late 20's and wolves came after him.  They chased him up a tree in what is now the Dungeness Forks Campground.  He was treed all night as the wolves wouldn't leave.  The next morning a group of guys came looking for him and the wolves took off as the search party was getting close enough to be heard.  After he climbed down and got back home, a bunch of the people in the area decided they had enough and hunted/trapped the wolves.  It took a couple years, but they got what they believed were the last ones down near Lake Quinault.  They had a newspaper article about it from the 30's.

My brother has a lake house over there and swears that he has heard wolves howling several times over the years. He grew up in Eastern Washington and knows the difference in sound between coyotes and wolves. He has had his place over there for over 15 years.

I agree Tiger Summit would be a good start
