He hasn't filled all his tags yet....

Hey, he can afford to keep dumping money into a lawyer instead of standing trial, thats a benefit of being rich, you dont have to play by the same rules as everybody else, you just have to pay enough to break them.

If his attorney was smart, he would pay for someone to shoot a mule deer and post it on this site as a "bench leg" and that would draw attention off of his client over the winter months. :chuckle:

He better not pull that if he shot it within an hour of Portland, those deer are blacktails

Looks like Reichert's big money attorney just secured a deal which will prevent Perkins from testifying against Reichert, despite the prosecutors desire to keep the trials separate.  This keeps on moving towards an acquittal. More and more maneuvering and delays.  This guy will get off scot-free, no time, minimal fines, and his hunting privileges will be intact.

Just because they are joined for trial doesn't mean Perkins cannot testify against his co-defendant. If Perkins' can absolve himself by testifying and at the same time place the blame on Reichert, then his attorney will encourage him to testify. I am interested why you think this will end in an acquittal. Please fill in the gaps. My understanding is they were caught red handed and there are witnesses to show the elk was shot in a closed unit before they moved it to that field. Seems like a slam dunk for the prosecutor--again, please fill me in on whatever I am missing.

Who didn't believe they would draw this thing out for years? Who is living in fairy land that actually believed this would be a slam dunk? It's the rich using the system we have to their advantage. They have the finances to do this and if you didn't expect this to happen then put the pixie dust down.  :chuckle:

I suspect you haven't read the other two Bullwinkle threads.  There is plenty to read.  Have at it.

Any criminal case can be drawn out for years if the defense attorney has a reason that is connected to his preparation for trial. Public defenders get their cases drawn out for long periods of time similar to this one. It has nothing to do with money. If the lawyer can argue that he needs more time i.e. for employee files to determine the credibility of the witnesses who will testify then the judge will give him that time. It's about a fair trial. A lot of people seem to think because he has a private attorney that's the reason why this is drawn out. Can he pay the attorney to do more work. Yes. But that work still must be connected to trial preparation to get a continuance. Sounds to me like some people don't like that his defense team is doing a complete and thorough job.

Regardless of the official reasons of the multiple continuances, you would have to be blinder than Lady Justice herself to believe that the system is not being gamed to allow Mr. Reichert to continue hunting until he fills his tags.

Either that, or a personal friend of Mr. Reichert's.

No that's another issue, and I agree with you entirely. He shouldn't be allowed to hunt while this goes on.

This needs to be done with.  Lets just give him a fair trial, convict him, and hang him already

this was a stipulation early. The judge had a no hunting order on him. His attorney did some fancy footwork and the judge lifted the ban. :bash:

Many or most cases take 6-12 months.  I'm wondering why you all think it's special favoritism or rich money that buys him this time?  It's simply not true.  Yes, they are fighting this case but just as many public defense cases take this much.  Another person answered his attorney is just racking up the fees...  It's probably a flat fee or stepped.  To think he is getting paid much is crazy.  To all those that think you can pay for a good result or to walk on a case like this you are simply wrong.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  This is coming from an experienced criminal attorney that handles these matters.  The law simply doesn't move as fast as social media or you want.  Sorry justice and preserving someone's rights takes a while.  If it were you, and it could be some day, you'll thank your stars you have rights and a good attorney to protect you in whatever someone may wrongfully accuse you of.  That being said, if he is guilty the process will eventually work.

Think about this though...  He's been offered a continuance dismissal agreement and has turned it down.  Does that not peak anyone's interest?

I have read all these threads. Looks like he's already been convicted in the court of popular opinion. Guess we just need something to talk about.  If he's guilty ban him if not well  what can you do. Reality sucks sometimes.

You would strip him of his right to hunt while he stands accused but  has not been convicted?

Sounds like you're not much into due process.
