maybe NEW STATE RECORD and world RECORD BLACK BEAR!
« on: March 09, 2008, 03:39:20 AM »
My friend Jacob 27 years old of Cashmere and his story of the possibly record Bear taken from Chelan county G.M.U 251 Mission on 9-16-07.
Note the current state record is from this same county and acording to Jacob this bear was killed not to far from his and I told him it might be from the same blood line. Here's the current record bear #1. 21 10/16 Chelan County 1999. This information link can be seen at www.nwbiggame.com

This is from a email he sent me about the bear...

when I spotted the bear, he 682 yards from the front porch, and I shot him at about 550. The area that I got him in, is scatterd timber, little canyons that border fruit trees, that is backed by rugged mountains, were who knows whats in there. I really didn't know how big he was until I got to him.      Jacob...

The weapon he used was a .300 Rem Ultra Mag, 180gr scirocco. He said the bear live weight was about 550 pounds and dressed out at over 430 pounds.

Picture 1 him and the bear

Picture 2 him and the record bear

picture 3 him on a logging road in gmu 251

Picture 4 him and a doe and the area were he shot his bear NOTE it was 682 yards behind the house on a on hill that the bear was taken.

I taped the bear close to 24 inches and the World Record Black Bear is 23 10/16 according to Boone and Crockett Club. so we got to wait and see what happens!.

Monster bear for sure. Congrat.
Why hasn't it been scored officially yet?

It would be best to get a brute like that scored for authenticity.  There are only a handful of folks that would believe a 550 pound bear with a 24 inch skull was killed in Washington.  Especially teh 24 inch skull part.  That would be unreal.

I should have the state record black bear for the shotgun muzzleloader catergory, but my double safety on my knight wasnt seated all the way.  I couldnt fiqure out why the gun wouldnt fire, put 4 different caps on from my pocket, I intially thought they had gotten wet because I was sweating healvily middle of August.  The bear was only 60yards away standing on a log, trying to fiqure out were the snapping noise was coming from.  Anyways a guy that worked with me that I showed the spot decided to go up with out me which was not part of the agreement, needless to say he ended up killing the bear a week later.  It is the #1 in the Boone and Crockett book for Washington.  The cool thing about the bear was that after skinning the bear skull it had been shot by an archer and the broadhead was completely inside of the brain cavity.  The entry hole was almost healed totally over and were it tryed to exit there was a big piece of skull missing.  100 grain thunderhead still in the skull.  Ive got about 10 minutes of video of the bear while up there scouting.  Wish I had him on my wall.

I saw a MONSTER first of September 06 Archery Hunting. I guessed he was 500-600lb. When I first seen him I thought it was 2 bears side by side feeding until he turned broadside!!! Then he walked just below the 2 bucks I was watching. He was as big as both Bucks put together. It was in the evening and I was going to run out of light.(I was Bivying) I snuck back in there the next mourning at daylight and never seen him again!!! Hmmmmm same Bear?(Chelan Co.)

This one sounds like it was shot pretty low in the orchards.  At leas tthat was the first impression I got.  That remeinds me of an orchard bear in Twisp.  Its behind the Burger Queen.  They used to make their own pastries to sell.  A family membr was the cook.  She went in about 3 inhe morning to cook.  She did one morning and there was somebody jiggling the door.  Being old school and from Twisp, she opened the door to see who it was.  It was the bear licking the doorknob.  She had taken out te trash with some maple syrup frosting onher hands.  "Hello there" come on in and have a donut. :)

Great Bear!

The DNR closed roads here allow anything that can get past the gates to use the roads. Don't know the status or authority of that road, but here, if you can drive around it or under it with a quad or a bike, then you can run State roads unless they're specifically posted.

Not Fed, or Private, but State is ok.

I'm assuming your speaking only for Olypen? In KingCo, all DNR gated roads are closed to vehicles and usually it states that on the gate itself, as are DNR roads in a lot of EWa, particularly the large wildlife areas that contain DNR lands.
