So heres my deal.  I drew a bull tag this year and am hunting east side archery elk.  I may be working 7 days a week with no chance for time off through september.  Is there any way to give my tag back and get my points back?  I saw someone post on hunt-wa about doing that last year.

and is there way to just get a west side elk tag insead of my eastside tag so I can just hunt around my house after work each day?

Thanks

I would call Olympia but I would suspect after drawing the tag they will probably say no.

You're stuck. once you've applied for a special app permit you cannot trade out or over. And its not a stupid rule.

I think there's a chance you could turn the permit back in and have your points restored, since you won't be able to use it. But you'll still be stuck with the eastern tag. How many points did you use to draw the permit? I do think you can get your points back, you just need to have the right story and talk to the right person. It's not something they routinely do. But there is an exception to the rule that you might be able to use.

:yeah: I know some place I saw where you could turn a permit back in before hand and get your points back. You can't change your tag unless you did not put in for special apps. I have heard they will in some rare cases like military and such but not seen it first hand.

     H. If an applicant makes a mistake, applies for the wrong hunt, and is successfully drawn, the special hunting season permit can be returned to the department of fish and wildlife Olympia headquarters before the opening day of the special hunting season. The applicant's points will be restored to the level prior to the permit drawing.

Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

No, of course not. That wouldn't be fair. If one person could do that, lots of other people would want to also. But just the special permit, so he can have his points restored. Since he "mistakenly" applied for it. He could not have intentionally applied for that permit, right? Since his work schedule won't allow him to hunt that season. Yep, it was a mistake.

So if he returns the permit and gets his points back do they pick someones name out that applied for the same permit and give it to them?
