I have a Tikka T3 in 300 WSM. It shoots just fine at 500 yards. The Elk don't like them. Dropped right when it was hit.

Quote from: yorketransport on June 27, 2012, 05:23:51 PMIf I had $1k to spend on a gun, without optics, I wouldn't buy any production gun, I would build a semi custom. I've put together sub .5 MOA Savages for less than $500 when using a Criterion barrel. Bump it up to $650 and you can have the action gone over by Shap Shooter Supply. $750 and a little patience will get you a full custom barrel which should shoot in the .3 MOA range. You could probably have the gun to want assembled and ready to shoot in less than two weeks. I'm partial to Savages, but if you want to just buy a turn key rifle, they don't offer anything too interesting in 7mm mag. There was a long range hunter in 6.5x284 close on the ballistics. Andrew Im all ears.....detail out how you can build a gun with an after market barrel for 500 bucks, or even 650......
