7mm-08 reloading
« on: June 25, 2012, 03:37:50 PM »
So I made a post last year about this time regarding reloading my 7mm-08. I got some great responses and tried a couple of different loads. My best has been w/ 46 gr H-380 and 139 gr Hornaday interlocks. While worthy, its not the tack driver I'm looking for. So i'm back asking you pros your opinions on a couple of key items:

1. I use IMR 4831 in my 7mag with outstanding results. Does anyone load with this powder for 7mm-08? If I could the same for both rounds, that would be great.

2. I've heard over and over that seating depth in many 7mm-08's is more important than about anything. For those of you playing with this, are you seating it closer to the lands for better accuracy?

3. I plan on switching from soft points to 139 grn SST's or Interbonds. Have any of you loaded these for your '08?

So far this year I've gotten a lot of good info that has helped me with my 7 mag reloading issues so I'm looking forward to this. I wish I had the time and finances to try all kinds of different loads and bullets, but it just doesn't work that way I suppose.

Try the 140 accubond with the h380. All 3 of my 08's love that combo

My personal choice is 44g. I shoot that load with 140 accubond in all 3 of my 08's one is a bolt rifle/one is a semi/ then I also shoot the same load in my bolt handgun. All mine shoot 3/4" or better with it.

Good stuff. I'm going to reload tomorrow and I'll try that out. I'm shooting a Rem 700 mtn rifle and it seems to be VERY picky about what it will shoot.

Do you just use large rifle primers or magnum primers?

If that does not work... try Varget or Win 760 powder... the 7-08 seems to like them..
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

We use IMR-4350 in ours with the 140 Nosler Partition. Accubond would be another great choice. I seat my bullets just under max length. As long as the bolt closes, you should be in business. Works well for us. We load from the Nosler book, work up to max to make sure your rifle will like the load. We use CCI 200 large rifle primers.
