Grizzly Bear or Black Bear?
« on: August 11, 2008, 10:03:34 PM »
I took these pictures the other day in the North Cascades. Do you think this could be a grizzly bear? The bear was about 1000 yds away so the pictures aren't that good.

Definitely can't rule out a griz.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Wlth that color and hump on it's back I would say definitely a griz.
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need one and not have it.                                                                             Local 66 sheetmetal workers

Looks like it has the hump between the shoulders like a grizzly. Probably a grizzly. I remember reading some stuff on grizzlies on the wdfw site, I was pretty surprised at how many grizzlies they estimated to be in the North Cascades.

Here's a pic I got with similar coloring of the head and legs, but the body on that yours is more silver.  Mine has 3 cubs and was on the westside!

Considering that all those pics are with the bears head down eating it could simply be a shoulder blade you are seeing. But on the other hand, 1000 yards, it definatly has enough body to be a Grizz. I have seen three blackied in the past four or five years that are that color. Exciting what ever it is!!

Looks like one to me too, dang, that sucks, not as bad as the wolves though.
