remington 50 cal muzzy bullet help

I'm headed to Oregon for an elk hunt in Oct, i have always shot 310 knight sabots with 100grns pyrodex pellets. any suggestions on solid lead bullets for this gun? i love the gun and have killed many animals with it soo a new gun is out of the question. i have some 385 buffalo bullets but haven't used them. any thoughts, thanks Jason

That Buffalo bullet should work very well, another alternative would be .503-460 grain No Excuse lead conical.  Both of these bullets have shot very well out of my Remingtons, I do prefer the 'slip fit' of the No Excuse...

Jason, I just ordered 2 boxes of the 495 grain 'no excuses' and got them in the mail today. You'll need the 460 grain to be legal in Oregon, the 495's are too long. These are the old White bullet. I make a plastic patch out of a sandwich bag for the first load, to hold the bullet on the charge. Your fine after the first shot, the fouled barrel creates enough friction to hold the bullet to the charge. If you don't want to use a piece of plastic, you can fire a 30 grain squib load to foul the barrel. I don't like hunting with a dirty barrel hence the plastic patch, I've seen no difference in my grouping with the plastic patch ether.

I have the Remmington 700-ML rifle and shoot the Power-Belt bullets.  348 grain I think and they work great with 110 grains of tripple 7.

does anyone know if you can still get parts for the rem. 50 cal. My son bought one in a pawn shop in Indiania and i'm afraid it night need a new bolt and for sure a new nipple !!! if you can were can I tell him to check ?

There is a guy on gunbroker that has parts.  Just do a search under muzzy parts.  Just bought a stock for $1.00!!

found a few parts on e-bay,told my kid it would be cheaper to buy a new knight big horn !! then to buy parts for the remington !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeb $300.00 spendy it might not the gun was never cleaned before it was sold to the pawn shop.When i saw it it was filthy !!!!!! had a really hard time getting the breech plug out really hard !!!! I'm guessing as dirty as it was the bolt might be shot .
He didn't take it apart when I was there so so I really don't know.I've never seen a muzzleloader that filthy and no telling how long it was like that.

Pawn shop sold it cheap to get rid of it so it must have been there for awhile.

I did fine him a new breech plug and nipples being sold as a kit on E-Bay they want $50.00 for it , hopefully thats all he needs.

thank you sabotloader, everything you told me was spot on.  i replaced my spring  and it was fool proof thanks to your directions.  anyone needing info please listen to mike he knows his stuff.
