How many bears?

  I am wondering how many bears will live within say a square mile with a normal food source, and water close.  Anyone know?

 I think a square mile to a bear is about a square inch of your house to you. I've seen as many as 7 adult bears feeding in one berry patch. A bear just goes where his nose leads him so they could be stacked up in one food source or scattered across the country.

I agree ..I to have seen numberous bears feeding in one area ... But never crossing each others paths ...

I've had 9 bears on 3 trail cams spread about a 1/4 mile apart from eachother this year.

Bears usally only put up with each other being close when there is an abundince of food or its breeding season. The amount of food in a given area also effects there home range. If there is not enough food to support the bears they become canibelistic or search for new home ranges. I think in washington they say the average is about 60 sq miles for a boar and a 3rd of that for a sow.
