Teanaway modern cow tag.
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:57:10 PM »
Lucky enough to draw a late December  modern cow tag in the Teanaway.  Has anyone out there hunted the state land above Hidden Valley off of Lambert Rd and have you done any good in the late season there? Any info for that area or anywhere else in the Teanaway wood be greatly appreciated.

If there is light snowfall, the public land will be available to hunt.  If the is the amount of snow we had in 2006, the private land is all there is.  Look for some private land to hunt or hope for an easy winter.  Elk will be up in the hills if the snow is light.

It's a good tag as long as you don't get to much snow, my brother had that tag a couple years ago and all the elk moved out. Lambert is good but that is an area that is really hit and miss. I agree along the river is a good bet.

Lambert is a pretty small area, I'd look for alternatives.

I had that tag two years ago and didn't see a cow because of all of the snow.  I ran into a couple of bulls though.   Hope for mild weather.  Take some chains just in case.  Lambert road can get a little icy in some spots, I didn't have to chain up, but I saw someone go off the road.  Good luck

Was it by chance a blue H3?  If so, sorry I slowed you down.   Holy cow, I came down hill backward with somebody following me and I blocked the road.  Had to chain up.  It was smooooooooooooth ice.

I drew and filled that tag 4 years ago. Snowmobiles and snow shoes are a big help. Snow was pretty deep that year in Dec/Jan, and getting off the road was tough. I could find their fresh tracks, but couldn't get off the road on foot. I didn't have snow shoes, but if I ever draw that again, I will get some. Did all my hunting on public land, and as deep as the snow got, the elk stuck around. I didn't get mine until the last morning, which was Jan 13th that season if I remember correctly. Most of my hunting was around the west fork of the Teanaway and the ridge above Cle Elum. Good luck

Keep in mind the size of that unit. I drew a bull tag last year and hunted that whole area. Ended up getting mine outside of Cle Elum. Like others said, if there is snow, bring snowshoes or snowmobiles. You will have to get off the roads to fill your tag. The wolfs are there. Its still a good tag for now, but they will soon change the way the elk migrate through. If they dont kill most of them. Good luck!
