My son nailed his first last night
« on: August 12, 2008, 07:09:56 PM »
Well got off work last night, went and got the boy his tag and called up clearviewguy to go hunt with us. We get up in there and within an hour clearviewguy spots one 200yds out. Tells Arron to shot it. So we got him set up with a good rest and handed him my 7mm mag. Takes his time and shoots and missed the first one reloads and nails her with the second. She takes off running across a log over the bank she goes a few minutes later we see her still moving but slowly 500yds out. So clearviewguy had to finish her before she hits the trees. He tags her running and downs she goes. The reason Clearviewguy helped finish is my boy has never shot at long range like that. Any ways here is where the adventure of the night starts. It's less than 2 hours before dark and we now have a bear down way down hill. So we get to her, gut her and figured we could go down hill. Wrong we ran smack dab into a 400 foot cliff. We eventually leave the bear and called upon dirtydan4 for some assitance getting out. Mind you, we were not prepared to stay out all night. So Dan trys to help guides us, but proves futile so we hunkered down for the night. We had water and food. Made a fire and the boy slepted in the big game bag. We weren't lost just to danm dark to get out. So this morning we went back and found the bear, skinned and deboned her. Took us 5 hours to pack her out and get back to the truck. The women were pissed as usuals. Can't really blame them as their motherly insicts kicked in. The boy held in there like a champ. I want to give much thanks to clearviewguy in all his help out there and with help keeping the boy calm when he got scared a little in the woods after dark. Also want to give much thanks to dirtydan4 for trying to guide us out last night as he didn't have to come out and help us till 1 a.m. and still got up for work today. The bear measures out at 4 foot and 9 inches. The boy beats his oldman by 2 inches. He is so stoked, that now he wants to go for his second. We'll difenitly have bear meat all winter this year. I am very proud of his accomplishment at 8 yrs old. He endured alot and still manage to have alot of fun and can't wait to go again. Here's is the pics too. The last one is cleaveiwguy and Arron making the last 40 yds to the truck. Thanks again clearview guy. Hope to have some more good adventures in the future.

Great job to your son too!  Seems like just a couple of weeks ago we were talking about the class he was taking!

AWESOME! Glad to see him connect. I think he'll remember that part of staying out in the night for the rest of his life. Congratulations to Aaron.

I can't think of a better thing to happen to Aaron at his age. I remember last winter he was little skiddish to shoot his new shotgun. After this experience it should give him quite a bit of confidence. Love the pics of the blood on his forehead.

Yeah I had to do that. Brake him in proplery. Sorry to get you locked up clearviewguy. I may not have to work tommrow and if your going to be around I'll give you a holler so you can get all the pics. Yes he will have a great deal more confidence this year. He won't leave me alone now. Tried to take a nap and keep waking me asking when was he going to get his second tag.LOL
