Kennel septic
« on: July 24, 2008, 10:29:13 PM »
Has anybody out there built a septic system for their outdoor dog kennel?  I've got a nice 14' X 6' chain link kennel on a concrete pad.  I'd like to add a below ground septic system so I can hose out the kennel and flush it down the septic.  I'd also like to be able to pick up the dog waste from the yard and put it down the septic as well.  Anyone built something like this?  Thoughts, ideas?  Would a system like this smell??

Thanks...Jeff

Sounds like it could work. Just a scaled down version of a household septic.... Design a trap into the system and you should have minimal odor... IMHO.

the big game houndsmen wedsite has some info about this.

I haven't done it, my stepdad did and it worked well.  He put two 6" drains in the pad and ran them 25 or so feet to 4" perf pipe in a normal design evaporative drain field. It has worked so far.

I have a 10x10 and I built the slab to drain to the back corner half bubble slope on each side.  Then I dug down a huge holding sump and put in a trap and drain system.  Its not perfect..but a little shovel work and some lime in the summer.  I also scrub slab with bleach water every two weeks.

Thought about doing the same thing but heard this:  dog Do-Do does not break down like ours in our septic.  I was going to put a barrel in the ground and use some type of drop in Screen to pull out and dispose of the solids in a hole in the back forty.
Just some ideas and thoughts......
