Marlin 45/70 xlr......OH yeah, you are on a budget  :dunno:  Don't count out the 45/70 as a great west side gun.  It will take deer, bear and elk with no problem.  If you shop around you can find some used guide guns for fairly cheap.  I personally like the XLR as it has the longer barel and it is a 300 yard gun all day long with the leverevolution bullets.  It is a lever gun which you are familiar with beings that you have a 30-30.  Fast follow up shots and not alot of recoil either.

Ah another Marlin fan...got an 1895 LTD III   Have you looked at the Happy Trigger kit from Wild West Guns in Anchorage?  I wont own a Marlin lever gun without one.

Thanks for the trigger info, I'm not into lever gun real big. I know a good deal when I see it though, a couple weeks a go I picked up a Winchester 30-30 and a 1895 G in 45-70 as a package deal.

Do not forget to look at the HOWA 1500 rifles as well....   Awesome inexpensive rifles as well.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Just adjust your trigger from 6# to 3#, then you can pack a heavier rifle.

:puke: Tikka...

Why don't you like tikka...I have only heard good things so I am curious?

Just from what I've seen him post on this site, he must have at least a hundred grand sunk into guns. And with all that top shelf gear, here is a modest little rifle that's accessible for the majority of sportsmen and is much more than adequate to perform the hunting functions for which it was built.

It's the same reason that Ferrari owners hate the Nissan GTR.

That right there is funny MJ.  :chuckle:
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
