Moving to Spokane in 478 days but who's counting. I'm kinda new to duck hunting and all I own is my shotgun and waders. I was wondering if anybody could show me their secret spots for opening day. Also my calling skills are terrible right now. I was thinking we could also work on that during opening day at sunrise. Any takers?
Seriously, I was wondering how the duck hunting in the Spokane area is. I want to invest more time and money into the sport but if there isn't much duck hunting around it would be pointless.
I already have my Deer/turkey spots figured out and I have fished all over the area in the last 30 years so I'm good there also.
I looked at the go-hunt webpage for waterfowl and that looks promising.

If you have fished around here, then you have some ideas on areas to scout

There is some decent water fowling over here, but we are not smack dab in the middle of a major flyway either.
It may well take $$ in respect to miles put in scouting. In that respect, a good GPS and map system are essential.
You have "fished all over the area in the last 30 yrs" and you are wondering how the duck hunting is? Over here, if there be water, there be ducks, some places more than others.

Well I guess I never paid attentiin to the waterfowl before. My deer hunting buddies got me turned on to warerfowl this year. I didnt want to invest much money for this years season in the midwest if was not going to use it when I move.

Also I enjoy the scouting part of hunting. Isn't this why we call it hunting instead of shooting?

Some really really good BLM land around Spokane that I would get a map and check into.

i would say your best bet for waterfowl hunting near Spokane would be either Pend Oreille River or Lake Roosevelt, which does require a boat. there are some lakes towards central Washington you might be able to get away with no boat but for the most part a boat is must. And i don't think people are gonna want to take you to their secret spots, i knows its kinda harsh but great spots are hard to come by, and people don't want that extra pressure.

The first paragraph was meant to be a joke. I deer hunt IL where finding a place to hunt has been very very tough the last 10 years. I completely understand top secret spots. Peace.

To be honest walk-in duck hunting spots are minimal around Spokane. Yes, some of the BLM land West of Spokane can hold ducks, but those ponds are prone to an early mid-November freeze up. The drive to Potholes/Moses Lake or the Tri-Cities for public land, walk-in duck hunting are the main options.

It's not just peoples "secret" spots. I know pend oreille river gets hit hard through out the season and spots are hard to get without being near some other hunters.
