First I'll introduce myself, I've been an avid archery hunter for about 6 years now. I rifle hunted prior to that. I was born and raised in southwest Washington and have hunted most of Washington over the years. One of the few places I have not been is lake chelan or Entiat.

So, I'm looking for advice, useful information, help, and motivational pictures. I really want to take full advantage of this opportunity and get a great buck. I have some nice bucks on the wall already but im looking for an exceptional buck. I already have maps and will be making a scouting trip very soon to learn road systems better, etc. I've also read the existing posts about Entiat which helps a little but I wanted to get some refreshed info for this years hunt.

Any help is very appreciated! Thanks!

  • HAHA! HERE WE GO
Head over too Wenatchee, head towards lake Chelan, once you get to the Entiat river bridge, swing a left, fallow that road till you see some forest service roads and head back into the woods with a pair of binoculars and a spotting scope.
This is the year im going to get drawn, i can feel it. NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED... damn :(

Good Luck this year, I drew the tag as well and can't wait.

I hunted it in '03 when it was open as a general unit. My hunt was over at 7:45 opening morning when I saw this guy, figured he was big enough for first archery buck.

Same as allready stated tire chains all the way around!

 :yeah:

Be sure to get the correct chains too!! You want the heavy duty off road chains, not the wimpy highway chains!! Les Schwab carries both you just have to ask for the off road chains specifically! Trust me I learned the hard way last November :yike:

Thanks everyone for the info! Basssquatch do you have any pictures? I'd love to see some more shots of bucks. How'd you do last year? Also any info on good camping areas would be cool. I'm getting very concerned with access to the area and would like base camp to be fairly close to some action. Anyone tried the forest service cabins off the Entiat?

Also, has anyone tried quads, quads with tracks, or snowmobiles? Is it a street legal only area? How would a chained up street legal Yamaha big wheel 350 do up there?

Found a truck upside down on the road last thanksgiving up there. Talk to his hunting parterns that day he went over the edge the night before and he had chains on all four?

Wish I could help you more, but I had the Chiwawa Late Modern Tag and spent most of my time up Tyee and Sugarloaf. I camp out of my truck for the most part so all I need is a wide spot usually...most everyone else was dropping down to the bottom every night or going back to town and moteling it.

The snow didn't start to fly until the final week for me, but it started to pile up fairly quick...you could drop down out of it and there were plenty of animals moving around on the edge of the snowline, that's where I shot my buck....he's my avatar <-----

I was not in it for the trophy, I just wanted to harvest my first buck as I am still fairly green. I sure wish I could be more help...good luck!

Lots of places to camp up mud creek and potatoe creek its probably going to depend on what you are going to be camping in and what area you decided you want to hunt . Also a few spots up Oklahoma gulch. Here is a picture of the buck I got in 2005 on the late entiat hunt. It was shot in the first season the day after thanksgiving, when they still had the two seasons.
