Ryan at long hollow is a great trainer and runs a good program... If he could train my Chessie he can do great things!  :chuckle:

I have a long hollow dog and couldn't be happier. great house dog, great hunter, and easy to train. my pup will not stop looking for a downed bird until he is called off. definitely a better dog than I am a trainer.

Give Cindy and Bryant a call at http://www.rockingmlabs.com/

They are good people with good dogs

You know now that you mention it, I remember Cindy Meyer back when I was running Hunt Tests , she was always around helping.

But not sure they have english lines.

I will fire them off a email. Sometime.

Thanks

Per your specs but double your price: http://www.silverbulletlabs.com/

Yes they look very good but yikes they are pricey. However if you take the cost of a good pup and divide it out by 13 years , the monthly cost for the enjoyment you get isnt bad. But for now I am looking  in the $800. range. Although my wife and I have not ruled it out.

Last night in Mount Vernon I saw a young lady with two pure white big male labs. They were bookends on a baby stroller. I pulled over ran across the street to talk to her, I think she was going  for the pepper spray before she realizedd I was a obsessed lab guy. Those dogs came out of a farm in Tacoma called Canyon Meadows. They two have a $1500.00 price tag.

So the search is still on and I really apreciate anyones help. Willing to go to Idaho or Oregon. I am not sure that I am willing to buy one cross country sight unseen and ship it to me. Some guys do it but I am more hands on.

Six years ago I purchased two Labs that are exactly what you are looking for and they cost me 1,200 a pop. Great looking dogs. Good luck finding one in that price range. It's probably possible but I didn't find one.

You very well may be right and I am prepared to fudge for the right dog. I just needed a starting point.

Thank you for the help.

Check out the list of litters from the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association:

Link

Thanks I was going down that list last night and emailed a couple.
It really takes a lot of work finding a pup. And than the the part I really hate are some of the puppy contracts are very intrusive into your private life. Some I just find offensive and would not deal with the breeder.

Really I understand folks wanting to make sure the dog is going to a proper home. But having to detail where a dog will be under every instance of every day is over kill.

It can be a lot of work searching for just the right pup.  I spent two years looking for a Chocolate Lab with the pedigree I wanted.  Granted I took my time and was in no hurry.  I think looking for the right dog is part of the fun.  I know what you're saying about the intrusive nature of some of the breeders and their puppy contracts.  I ran into that too.  In the end I found, for me, the perfect pup.  I hope to have him some time in November.  Good luck with your search.

Right that. My first dog took me about 6 months to find . I spent the time reading retriever training books because it was my first. And everyone remembers their first time. I have about 25 training books plus a 20 year collection of hunting mags. I use to take a pile of mags and gleen through for anything about retrievers. My first dog was off the chart s for anyone knowing the breeder. The male and female had the look I wanted, the male hunted but he would have been kicked out of any dog show. He was tall but stout and had a head like a water melon. When I went to look at the pups he greeted me in the drive way and I was a little intimidated by his size and look. But than the lab tail kicked in. He would have went home with me.

In the end I got a dog that was perfect for me. I like picking one in the middle of the litter. I must have done something right because at Hunt Tests I would often be approached by people who wanted to breed. She just had a look.

As I look at sites with breeding dogs I can find lots of males that have the look but not that many females? I tried to remember the dam of my first dog. But do not remember her looks that well.

I look at pedigree in two areas, certifications and a English line.  I can turn the dog into a retriever good enough for me if I have those two things. After all if you a lucky guy you will get 60 days of hunting a year. The rest of the time you have to look at them. So they better have the look.

I am sending a deposit to Cougar Mountain for litter that will arrive next week.
If there is not a pup in that litter I want, I will wait for the next.

Thanks all for your help.

Bad news. The litter I had deposit on was small and all black.

So the hunt is back on for the following,

YLF
Light or white in color
English lines
Blocky and tall as possible parents.
Reasonable Puppy Contract
I name my own pup
I pick my own pup
7-8 weeks at time of pick up.
One both parents hunt if possible or one generation back.
AKC  REg. Limited Papers
I have no intrest in breeding pup will be spayed.

Feel free to share my info
