Blacktail with a Primos 35
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:39:25 PM »
I've had this camera set up in a spot for 4 weeks and finally checked it today. I don't think I've ever let a trail cam go that long before checking it, but this is a 2 1/2 mile hike and it takes quite a while to get in there. I was a little concerned about the batteries being dead, but they were fine, and it took 15 pictures of me as I walked up to it today. (It's a new camera and the first time I've used it so I wasn't too sure how it would work).

I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get more pictures, but it wasn't the cameras fault. I'm actually pretty happy with this camera, especially being that I only paid $60 for it. In 4 weeks, only a few deer walked by. I was sure expecting more activity than that, and also was hoping for a bear or two. But one of the bucks is pretty decent, so I decided to leave the camera there.

Yes and I hope that bigger one is still around next year, as this year I won't be hunting blacktails at all. I've got a special permit for a late mule deer rifle hunt in Okanogan County, so I won't even be trying for a blacktail this year. Being that this is a 2 1/2 mile hike, I'm pretty confident that a hunter won't get him.

Oh I wouldn't want you to waste your time, he still needs to grow for another year. Next year he should be a shooter.

Thanks for the offer though!

Funny, I checked both my Primos 35's today for the first time in 4 weeks. They were about 4 miles in. One did great and the other was a turd. I'll post up the pics I got tonight or tomorrow. That one buck of yours should be a shooter next year.

Nice pictures!  I like seeing animals that are there because it's good habitat--not because there's a pile of apples or salt.  Don't get me wrong, bait is good if you just want lots of pictures, but my wish is to see animals in their natural state.  That's why my camera is on a trail that crosses water--a rare occurence here in Eastern Washington.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

It was an online trail cam store that went out of business and sold everything they had at a discount. It even came with a 2 GB memory card. You can get them right now from Amazon for just under $80, and you can also buy them factory refurbished with warranty for $49.95 each if you buy two.

I was actually thinking that too. (for next year)

I've got a climbing stand that I've never used. Just might have to break it in at this spot next year. Would be a bit of a pack in (2 1/2 miles) but I think I'd be pretty safe leaving it in there the whole season so it would be there when I needed it. Lots of possible trees for it.
