Make sure you know your boundaires on the reserves and Potholes SP.  You can also access off Rd A or Division Rd from the S. Frontage Road.

Snakes are not a big concern.

I've yet to see a snake in the desert unit and I have spent my whole life in it.

Thanks I have 80 percent hearing loss and I have always worried about snakes.

I too have never seen snakes there. Only in the areas with rocks, like the seep lakes.  Be worried more about ticks and mosquito s and weird spider bites this time of year.  They'll all be gone by deer season.

I almost stepped on one back in the 70's at Harris Lake.  Dad off'd it with his .22 pistol.  Only one any of us in the family ever saw in there in many, many years as a kid hiking in and fishing Harris, Desert and Dune, etc.  Those were the days, they had some HUGE rainbows in them.   Not so much anymore.  :(
