Modifying a motorcycle seat...

Anyone out there ever reupholstered or shaved down/modified a motorcycle seat?  Looks to be pretty straight forward, found some good videos/tips online.  Just wondering if anyone has had some first had experiences with it they wanted the share.  The do's and dont's, that sort fo thing.

Take off original seat.  Buy Mustang seat.  Problem solved.  I couldn't get the upholstery to stretch right when I tried to shave down my old 2003 Ace Shadow.
