picture viewing/SD Card
« on: August 14, 2008, 06:57:23 PM »
o.k. another guy hooked here. guess i'm getting a cam too now. thanks to all for pictures and informative posts. was wondering this, while researching the cam to buy.
if my trail cam uses an SD card, couldn't i simply put it into my digital camera to review the captured pictures?

It's exactly what I do.  I know they sell the "field card viewers," but I just use my camera.  One last thing to pack around.

That's exactly what I do also, I have two 512 MB cards I take my camera with me so I can look at the pics right then and there then I swap the used card for the empty one and take it home to download on the computer, now that I have 2 cameras I am going to have to get another card or take the laptop along and download them right there, which I used to do before I got the extra cards.

Thank you guys, appreciate it. didn't seem logical to purchase those viewers if i already had a camera. gonna start off with a moultrie game spy (99.00). i can upgrade later i guess if i want something better, then i'll have two cams. time will tell. Thanks again.

It's not a guarantee that your camera will be able to read your card. For example, my Canon 30D can read cards from the older Cuddebacks but not the newer models (reformatting the card doesn't help).

If your camera doesn't show the pics, get an SD card reader.  The card just slides in and the other end is USB.

I use a portable DVD player to view pics in the field.  It has a good size screen and is a lot easier to see than the small camera screens.

Most Camera's also have a U.S.B. out and a TV out. So you can use those for veiwing your Pics also.

GEARHEAD,
Where do you live? I know that the Game spy 4.0 is on sale at wall mart for $74.00 and not all of them have the same stuff but I found the Moultire sd card viewer on sale at the Mill creek store for 20 bucks! so for roughly what you would pay for the 4.0 at full price you get the reader too! I use 2 1 gig sd cards and take it back to my pc to view, I bought the viewer so that when I'm away from home using it as a scouting tool on a hunt I wont have to use the battery life in my camera up viewing photos ... I also thought of using the laptop to view on the road, Good luck!
