Just wondering if anybody has gone up to Alberta or Saskatchewan and hunted whitetails. I'm thinking about going up there and just wondered if anybody knows any good guides. I haven't really determined what province I want to go to yet any info would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely Saskatchewan for tree stand whitetail or black bear.  MONSTER Mulies too if you could get a tag.  Everything else Alberta.  All the guides I knew are either dead or retired.  I'll have to drop a few emails and see if I can get any good current guide leads for you.  I still have friends that are there every year so I should find something.

Good indication as to how good the Whitetail hunting in Sas is...Every single one of my good guide friends in Alberta and BC drive to Sas each year to hunt whitetail during the rut.  My buddy Craig didn't even want to send me a picture from last year because he was embarrassed for taking only a 145 P&Y buck.

Update - two quick responses from my BC guide buddies.  Both said ESWO!  But, be warned.  They said you might have to wait 2 or 3 years to get a spot.  Also recommended you look at Cabela's.  Guess they buy up a good number of spots with top Sas. outfitters.  Good luck.

You can't go wrong with either but my preference would be Saskatchewan.  I would also consider the Peace River valley of British Colmbia. In that particular area they are the same Dakota subspecies that you find in Alberta and Saskatchewan but they recieve even less pressure.

Thanks radsav ill have to take a look at cabelas. I wouldn't doubt that they would deal w all the top outfitters in Saskatchewan cause that's where big bucks are. I have one question though doesn't cabelas Jack up the price? I emailed eswo but they haven't got back with me yet.
Db thanks for the info also I've been emailing with the guide of high prairies outfitters as well. I also like the idea of hunting in BC I may be able to save a little bit of money driving there instead of flying to Saskatchewan.
m.v. ill have to take a look at that outfitter as well. thanks for your guys input if any one else has any more input I would greatly appreciate it.

In most cases the difference between Cabela's and direct is a near wash.  The advantages of an outfitter working with an organization like Cabela's is very attractive.  So they work very closely together to make everything competetive.

If you like the idea of BC Mulies.  Man, do I have an opportunity for you   Not so much on B&C  BC whitetails.

Wouldn't recommend our "outfitter".

Timing makes a big difference if you are not in the agriculture areas.  Rut was late last year (hunt was Nov. 7-12)and our outfitter didn't work real hard with the baiting.  I did shoot a 4X4 with brows but was not a big deer.  It was only one of two bucks seen and three deer total in three days of hunting.  My dad saw a few more deer but nothing bigger than the one I got.

Good luck.

A remote area of the Bull River muledeer migration route has been virtually unhunted for the past 10 years do to access.  A good buddy of mine just completed a horse trail and aquired the guiding rights to this area.  He offered me the hunt, but I'm already booked for mountain goat during that time.  There are going to be some monsters killed up there in the next few years.  Pricing is low this year, but will definetly be going higher next year.  Will still be worth it for many years to come I'm sure since he will not be taking many back there.

I'll be up there in 2013 until bone hits the ground or snow drives me out.  I might even move the mountain goat hunt up for a chance at one this year.  I'd really like to be the first one in there after 10 years

No problem. I haven't had the opportunity to personally hunt with them but I have heard great things about their whitetail hunting.

Not sure your going to save a ton in gas because it's up in Northern BC...but if you want to hunt the same sub-species as you see in Alberta/Saskatchewan that is where you will have to go. The outfitters that operation in lower BC are hunting the Northwest Whitetail subspecies which is the ones we have here in Washington.

What is low I wouldn't mind shooting a muley!! Db your right about saving money because that hunt is 2 grand more then most hunts I looked at in Saskatchewan. The guide sent me some pictures of some amazing monster deer that his clients have shot but I guess all guides show their biggest deer to get people to go there. I might have to put that place down on my bucket list because there are some monsters.
