LEWIS RIVER 560 early season bow hunting 2012
« on: July 24, 2012, 01:05:40 PM »
Is anyone going to up to the 560 gmu this year? If so I have a couple of questions. 1) Have they done any clear cutting that you know of up by the loaf, or  mosquito meadows? 2) Do you know anything about huff rot? Does it affect the meat at all or does it just slow them down cause it seems like that is what I need always just one step behind them dang things. >:( 3) Have you done any scouting of this area this year? I will be heading up in two weeks to place some game cams and hike some old trails. Its so close to September I can feel the camo paint on my face and hear the bugling. Let me know if you got any information and I will keep you posted! Good luck to all the hunters out there.
Sorry forgot to add this is my first post on this website, but definitly not the first time on it. I get on this website at least once a day and like all you say its addicting. I have always bow hunted and will never change the thrill is just to over welming!! I have taken 7 deer with my bow and have had my far share of chances for elk but never closed the deal. I have put my time in and now its time to deliver. All of you guys and gals seem really cool I wish there was a camp site big enough to hold all of us. The problem would to many stories there would never be time for hunting. Its just really freaking cool to see that there are other people out there as CRAZY as I am about elk hunting. My wife almost had me convinced I needed help. Boy was she WRONG!

I know that there are some newer clear cuts down lower, but I hunt up on elk pass road from mile marker 24 to about 32 all through there. I'm to sure what your talking about c-post? I know that there is elk up there its just real tough huntin with all the thick rep rod. They need to do some thining up there and I think then we could have a lot more success. Do you hunt up there by elk pass?

They've been doing a lot of controlled burns around the huckleberry fields and have more scheduled for this bow season. Call the Gifford Pnichot HQ in Vancouver. They'd tell you more.

the Elk pass i know is not in the 560 unit. But it is still open. I think its the packwood unit.

Packwood is 3 pt or better. No antlerless. Lewis River is 3pt or antlerless.

I saw quite a few of the elk taken in 560 last year with no hoof rot problems. There were quite a few in 520 during the late season, however.
