Modern Rifle Season in 200 GMU Series

Just browsing through the regs it looks as if most of Central WA enjoys a 20 day season--the longest for modern firearm tag holders.  Is there a specific reason for this? I hear about some areas that are pretty liberal with restrictions because they dont' want elk in there and there aren't a lot to be found.  Seems to avoid the Yakima herd.  Does this area cover the Colockum herd?

Well, it's the northern fringe area of the Colockum herd. They don't want elk north of highway 2, so that is the reason for the liberal season, and it's "any elk" if you didn't notice. Very few elk there and that's the way they want to keep it. Take a look at the harvest report and you'll see that there are only a couple of elk killed in that area each year.

pretty much anything in between the columbia and snake rivers is devoid of elk may get lucky and stumble on one but i wouldnt try hunting them too hard
