Tasco Trailcam

I really want to get a trail cam and I saw this.  Is this Tasco a good deal?  Anyone have this cam, or any reviews or comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I just picked up two of of these from walmart for $40 apiece  last night. they are my first trail cams so i just went with the cheapest i could find in case they get stolen. they are $50 dollars online.

I got these at the 348th super walmart in federal way kiddy corner from wholesale sports. it was the last two they had. I would check a few inner city walmarts where they don't sell as much hunting gear.

I have the one the op posted and I can't complain, it takes great photos IMO. I originally bought the wild game innovation from Walmart and returned the next morning and bought the tasco. I paid 100 for mine though.

I have three.  Cost was 39.99 on amazon with free shipping.  Takes good morning, afternoon and evening photos,  but night photos could be better.  If an animal is more than 8-10 feet out all you see are eyes at night.  Well worth the money and the low out of pocket expense if the walk away.  2 gb max sd card and battery life of 3 months is nice.  I have plenty of example photos but I am on shift today.  D

I use a 4gb in my camera, is that not supposed to work in it?

Mine call for a 1gb  card but you can use a 2gb class 2 card. not sure if a 4gb class 2 would work or not in mine.

no thanks on the Tascos after owning a few they have critters stand right in front of them and not take pics..then they work then they dont this goes on all day ..not consistent

Don't waist your money, pay a little more and get a good camera, they don't hold up, from experience.

I have a handful of these. I haven't had any more issues with these cameras than any other camera I own. If your just wanting to put them on trails I don't reccomend that but I haven't had any problems over minerals 9-10 feet away.

I would look a little deeper, in my opinion tasco is not very good i see alot of whiteouts with my friends and hes always complaining about it, If your hunting on your own land or if your not worried about it being stolen id go with the bushnell trophy cam 5-8mp they are amazing cameras and offer great pictures and videos and there super small and lightweight, i bought a 5mp bushnell trophy for 148$ on sale at amazon.com so for 60 bucks more the difference in picture quality and BATTERY LIFE is absoulutley worth it....

on the other hand i had mine stolen 3 weeks after i bought it... so i switched to the wildview, it was 57$ and the pictures are good enough for me... just not as high quality as the bushnell (and the battery life is much shorter)

but like i said go with the bushnell if your not hunting high trafic areas

My Tasco's have done great for me. I've used them on trails, and with bait. Either way, they work. You just have to keep in mind the short range of the flash. I always set them up so that the animals will be close, like within 15 feet. I've gotten tons of good pictures from them. Even had one out all winter on a bait for predators, got lots of bobcat pictures. It lasted through the snow, ice storm, wind, rain, everything. Not bad for a $40 camera.

I have watched 3 different Tascos of mine have deer or bears stand withing a foot of them for 30 min! and not take pics then 20 min later a deer walks by it and boom takes a pic .happens all day long with all of them

Sounds like you have some bad cams? I can't say for certain that mine works perfectly but I got pictures everytime I walked by it in my home test for a week, we all know there are better and worse ones out there.

My question for some is how do u really know if your cams work?..if I hadnt witnessed this stuff happening and just gone about my daily stuff and checked my cams once a week like I usually do..everything would seem fine..lots of pics and throughout each day everything would seem peachy.  I ran these cams for a year before I watched a bear in front of one last year for 40 min! with no pics! then a deer walked by it and a pic! then I started getting curious..not only was it the tascos..the moultrie and bushnell trophy cam and all had lags or issues. I hung 3 different brands last year on the same tree facing the same spot and every cam had pics on it that another cam didnt!

Another example..last week I watched a buck stand feet from a cam for 10 min at 18:40 til 18:50....about 1hr later a buck walked by the cam and paused and walked off..it got dark and the deer were gone. I went and pulled the cam.. I had pics for the 3 days the cam was there..all day long..everything seemed fine and u woulda thought this cam worked flawlessly and captured everything..the day I pulled the cam there were pics at 1100-1130 and again at 16:10-16:40 and then at 20:45...seems good right? well I was able to witness watching that buck stand a mere 3 feet from cam that day for 10 min and there was no pics!!

One other thing is my cams always take my pic when leaving or walking up to them..its always critters that it seems to malfunction

I hate my 5mp Tasco. It has terrible night photos, and I put it in front of a big pile of apples that I replenished weekly for a month. Apples gone and bear crap (with apple chunks in it) everywhere every time I checked it, and no bear photos. It has only taken picks of people, a deer, and a squirrel.

I bought 3 tasco's last year and all 3 died within a year. I moved on to Bushnell and have been fairly happy, love the battery life and pic quality. Some times the trigger speed is great sometimes it's not.

I think the motion sensor can be fooled by a critter that's not moving very fast.  Last week I got 22 pictures and 16 0f them were bushes.  Finally got a picture--of a Blue Jay!

I'd spend a little more on a better camera.  The old saying, "you get what you pay" is true.  Every cheap cam that I've ever bought (tasco & moultree) has died w/in a season or two.  Plus they eat batteries a lot faster than other cams.  Currently, I have Bushnell & Wildgame (4.0, 5.0 & 6.0mp models).  Bushnell takes best pics in all light conditions.  Wildgames take great pics too, but have the dreaded white out at dusk & dawn sometimes.
White out is worse in older models.  Newer models seem to have the issue figured out.

How do you you really know if a $200 dollar camera is working unless your sitting in the woods with it 24/7 watching what it takes pictures of? When i get 1500 pics and 850 pics off two seperate cameras id say there working fine, that is until a critter opens the door then they power off. Im on my 3rd season with my original tasco and 2nd season with my 2nd tasco.

  I did get alot of good pictures for the first 7 or 8 months, around 1500 photos, so I really cant complain, I think it was a good learning experience, I'm sure some people have had better luck with theres holding up,  it might have something to do with low temperatures, I put mine up right after Christmas and that winter we had lows around minus 10, I just picked up a Bushnell 5 mp paid 135.00, a bit more than a Tasco but a lot more bells and whistles. I was never very confident that my Tasco camera worked properly from the start, it was difficult to program the led screen was sketchy at best and letters showed up that I had no clue what they meant, I even turned it over to my 17 year old son who is very good at programing gadgets with no luck, the test for good gadget for me is can I break it within the first week or so, if it holds up after dropping it in the driveway, or leaving it in the truck on a 100 degree day,  it might last awhile.

I have one of my Tasco cams in the woods right now. it worked on the trial run at home on the dogs so hope it will work up there..

As far as " you get what you pay for", I haven't found this to be true with trail cameras. I've used wildgame, moultire, and primos cams. The primos X cam is the most expensive one we have and took alright pictures for 3 or 4 months, then croaked. I've heard they have a good replacemment policy but haven't sent it back yet. The moultrie has lasted three years with no problems, but only takes ok pictures. IMO the wildgame innovations cameras are the best bang for your buck. They are inexpensive,have a low profile, have decent trigger speeds, and take really nice crisp pictures. They do seem to have a slight problem at dusk depending on which direction the camera is facing to the sun, and they also have a pretty short battery life. I have a free battery hook-up and can't stand to let them soak for much more than 2 weeks so this isn't much of a problem for me   They also take great video

  save your money for a better one with a fast trigger speed, the tasco has a terrible trigger speed

Trigger speed is 1.5 seconds, which is very good.

I have seen the 5mp ir and 3mp white flash Tasco pics side by side. I am far from impressed with the 5mp version. The 3mp takes WAY better pics imo.
