I started off hunting Muleys then Blacktails and now I'm hooked on whitetails. I've killed all three types but I have been hunting whitetails for the last 20 years or so. I just can't stop.  :chuckle:

This is one of the biggest whitetails I've killed. The Muleys and Blacktails are pre dig. camera days.

wetside blacktails have pissed me off and wasted my time so far.. So im going to say Texas whitetails which is where Ill be and what Ill be after next year and every year thereafter! Ill be sitting in a permanent ground blind on private property and not trying to climb steep clearcuts and trudge through the thick stuff. I will just have to avoid prickly pears, mesquite thorns, and rattlers!

We had one of these polls in the last month. Mule Deer won by a long shot.

Saw a muley while flying over some farming towns east of yakima. Almost thought it was a juvenile elk at first. Didn't realize how big they got compared to the blacktails!

I would have to say Blacktail ...I have killed all three species in Washington. I love deer hunting no matter what species I am hunting but something about blacktail thats get in your blood and I just like it more ..Definately is the tougher of the three to get ...If your lookin for a big one ,,, Nothen cooler than seeing a whopper Blacktail standing there in a little foggy clearcut on a little misty day  :chuckle: :dunno:

I would choose muleys mostly because of the terrain to hunt them in and I just love how majestic they look.  I have not hunted for a whitetail (have a late hunt tag this year) but hunting in the lowlands just isn't as exciting as being in the mountains.  Blacktails are what I hunt after being unsucessful getting a muley.

Gotta be the mystique of the Blacktails for me. I love still hunting through the ferns and having such close encounters. Being in the woods with bow in hand during that last week October is what I'm looking forward to.

Don't fool yourself on that one. We've killed big whitetails up over 4000 ft. elev.

I will say that some of those big Blacktails....are really big.

:yeah: I have seen a very good population at 5500 feet. I have hunted all three, and I chose whitetails. There are quite a few of them so I can always be seeing action, and they actually are scared of me unlike a muley  :chuckle: Muley would be my last choice  :P

The BLACKTAIL     It's the hardest deer there is to hunt.  My largest deer that I have killed is a mule deer in Teanaway ( Iron Creek area) I have killed a round robin ( spike - 4point) in all three species. Just my  :twocents: in how to rank them from hardest, to easiest would be Blacktail, Mule Deer, then Whitetail...

I agree these whitetails are simple compared to a mature blacktail.. As for that matter a big mountain muley will walk circles around most people and you will never know it..

Agree   My first year hunting mule deer, I had a big 4 point play hide and seek with me for 4 days, until I got smart and came in above where I was jumping him.. I thought that I saw him under this big tree, snuck down to within 60 yards, and let him have it with my trusty 30-30..His head dropped, but his antlers stayed in the tree  :yike:  turned out it was a damn blacktail SPIKE  :bash: The old timer that was showing dad and I the area said that was the first blacktail he's seen there in 40 years.. When I got to the spike, the 4 point was not 20 yards  :bash:

Any deer hunting is good. I love my bench legs. Best of both worlds plus we are seeing more and more whitetail hybrids as well. So I pick all 3 :chuckle:

I have hunted all 3 species and must say that blacktail are the hardest. whitetail are the spookiest. and mulies are the easiest to find. none are easy to hunt by any means. ive yet to kill a mule deer so one of my goals this year is to get within range and drop one like a sack of rocks!!!  :chuckle:

I like hunting the deer in my back yard. And I've always lived on the coast so it's blacktails for me. But I have to admit I had fun hunting whitetails last year.

i have hunted blacktail my whole life, i have had chances to go hunt muleys and whitetail but when it comes right down to it the blacktail call to me in my sleep, once they get their hooks in you there is no way to keep myself from pursuing them, they are the gray ghost of north america, to take one on his terms is a hell of a task, and i am talkn about gettin in the nasty thick ass stuff and rootn him up, with the cold soaking rain chillin you to the very core of your bones, and then you see that glass eye staring at you and then it disapears without a sound.... no funner deer to hunt :twocents:
