Goldbar bear
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:13:54 PM »
I found out today that someone got a bear somewhere over by the salmon hatchery the other day.  It took them 10 shots with an assault rifle to kill it >:(   :dunno:
Sounds like a poor excuse for a clean kill if you ask me.

What kind of rifle was it? Just because the person was a bad shot doesnt make it the (assualt) rifles fault. I have seen someone shot at a deer with a bolt gun and finaly kill it after the 18th shot :yike: I wish that I would have just shot it and finished the poor animal :(

:dunno: I didn't hear the rifle being blamed.... It is always the shooters fault unless there is a mechanical malfunction. Of course the shooter could have caused that too by poor maintenance. Still listening, rifle is not being blamed
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

I would guess that most assault rifles would be too small of a caliber to be very effictive for killing bears.......hence the need for 10 shots.  It is the shooters fault for choosing too small of a caliber and probably poor bullets as well.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I don't know much about assault rifles, but can't you get them in .308?

Sure, 30/06 too, and 338 Win Mag, in a Browning BAR or Remington 742. That is if you choose to call those rifles assault rifles. They're semi-autos so I suppose they meet the definition.

Like I said, I don't know much about them, just thought you could get them in bigger calibers.

DPSM has an AR type that comes in .243 and .308. I am sure others do as well.  Not the gun, the shooter that is the problem here.

So is a semi auto shotgun considered an assault rifle?

We as a community need to stop cowering to the play of the antis by not acknowledging their made-up terminology.  I try to avoid the term.

Also, 7.62x39 which is ballistically very similar to the 30-30 which some will argue is a good bear round for the *typical* Washington Black bear--within reason/range.

7.62x54r is another that can be found in some AK variants...ballistically very similar to the .308.
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.
