Marsh rat boats

Does anyone use one ? Are they stable ?I weight 240 pounds and they are rated for 260 pounds do they have enough leg room?Or is there a more stable light weight boat i should look at.Will be hunting small tidal ponds around fur island.Thanks for any info.

They are great little boats, VERY stable and fun to hunt out of.
If you are concerned about a weight limit in the boat look for the fiber glass model (marsh rat magnum) as the have a higher weight rating.

Yeah mostly concerned with weight and i have to keep my legs stretched out .Thanks i will look into the Magnum.

I built my own pod and it hold my 300lb a$$ just fine.... so you should be fine...

Upwind you better get one rated for 600 lbs, your the only guy I know that has a decoy spread that covers the entire marsh

I have a little motor, my 200lbs, troopers 52 lbs and a sack of decoys and it works well.  Can't crank the motor all the way up.  The cockpit is plenty long.

Did you build up a platform to mount that motor on?  From what I see on their website, I don't see that part of the structure on the boats pictured.

Yes I built the transome and the the lifts for the oarlocks from some scrap aluminum I had here.

i don't know about just fine  ....sometimes i think that thing is going underwater, but with all the foam you put in .....ur good.

Given weight concerns, I would look at the marsh rat magnum one.  Fiberglass marsh rat may be a better option.  Heavier, but stable and doesn't deform in the sun.  I have the marsh rat, aqua pod, MLB classic.  Aqua pod is quicker on the water and very stable.  Aqua pod is lite and easy to pull around.  I throw them in my large boat and typically hunt out of those in the flats for better concealment.

You will have no problem in a marsh rat magnum. My Dad is 6'4" and weights 300 lbs and he does just fine. Nothing beats a rat.

aquapod paddle a lot easier and will float more weight.  I am 350 my buddy 250.  we sink a magnum rat.  we do not sink a 10' pod.

did I mention they paddle a lot easier?  David Boys jr told me to buy the aquapod.  He is a stand up guy as was his late father.  His father lived about 5 min from me.

I have one of the original fiberglass marshrats that I bought from the late Dave Boys himself.  It's camo and has a transom for a small motor.  I use a Merc 3.3hp or electric on it.  I used to duck hunt a lot and now have 5 little girls and no time to hunt.  It's heavy, but very wide and stable.  I've been on some seriously dangerous water in it, like when the wind whips up during a hunt and had to retreive decoys and call it a day.  I live in Olympia, mine is available for anyone who would like to try one out before they make a purchase.  I don't really want to sell mine, so I'd have to pretend I'm a pawn shop and request something of similar value in trade while you try it out.  Also have motors, decoys, seats, etc if you need gear too.
