It was the 2011 gov. tag, but just shot not too long ago. Not sure of the last day of the season, but I think time was running out.

I really don't care for velvet, I would have loved to see the elk all rubbed out. It would look way better during september, I wonder why he shot it so soon. Anyway, what do I think, almost dissapointed that it didn't breed or rub his antlers to a nice polish. Not my money though, so my opionon really doesn't mean much.
Great bull but HATE the velvet!
Looks to me like the head has a cape attached... it is a stud bull. The velvet looks funny on elk but I would do that hunt if I could.
well i guess i would have done the same thing now that i know the circumstances, maybe a taxidermist can get the velvet off and make it look natural, can that sort of thing be done without messin up the antlers
