Upland Vest suggestion
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:58:03 AM »
Im starting to look for a new upland bird vest. I recieved the Cabela's Rapidloader vest several years ago as a present and really dislike the Rapidload feature. The shells are difficult to pull out, and the next ones don't like to fall into place. I've given up on using that feature so the plastic clips just bounce around and make extra noise.

Im not looking for anything fancy at all. Just a good quality vest that will hold a couple boxes of shells. I really dont like shell loops and I can seem to find a vest that doesnt have them.

Basically what im looking for is the Cabela's Traditions without the shell loops. Does anyone have any vests that are similar? Ive been looking off and on for the last couple years and cant seem to find a vest I like.

Thank you

It is not orange, but it repels water excellently!

Only problem I have had with the Cabela's stuff is it stains very easily.  Quail blood is almost impossible to get out of them.  But, you don't have to use the shell holders if you don't want to.

Columbia is by far my favorite.  Haven't bought one in a while so I'm not sure what models they still have.  Sims Vibration had some fantastic vests on blow out last two years ago and I bought a lifetime supply at $29.95 each.  Might be some stores that still have those at bargain prices.

I wore Filson Way Back when.  Was always a solid product and holds up very well.  I just didn't like the way it carried lots of weight.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I have a nice Columbia coat that I wore for quite a few years. Loved the quality and the amount of shell loops (and that they were covered so the brass didn't scratch your gun). My only problem was once you got a few roosters in the bag along with the dogs water it got heavy by the end of the day. The older I got the more my shoulders let me know about it. I ended up switching to a Cabela's Upland backpack with the waist belt and water bladder. I can carry a lot more and go a lot longer with this backpack. With dog water and birds in the bag I can go a lot longer. I can carry some of my survival items and lunch or snacks as well. Another plus is it allows me to layer my clothing for the weather and I don't need to put a vest on top of what i am wearing.
