they may not be "considering" it but like most things there is increased regulation, not all of it good.  :twocents:

According to the guys running the Hunter's Ed program here on the wetside, they have no plans to make this required. Local bow clubs are doing a good enough job of offering and promoting this. Budgeting is a real concern when considering adding new programs like this to the requirements.

If they implement something like this, most who have been hunting w/bow and arrow already are "grandfathered" and won't need to take the course.  In MT, they require the course.  But, if you prove that you have been hunting in another state w/bow, they will waive also.  I just took a copy of my previous years WA license several years ago, and they accepted it as proof.

Ya?  Well then why after having hunted for nearly 20 years did I get denied a hunting license because I didn't have my hunters safety card to show the walmart clerk? I had to go back home and try like hell to find my old "green card",  that is what the called my hunters safety cert card years ago.   I wasn't grandfathered then.

Or how about my boaters safety card?  I've owned my own boat since 1998, been fishing in dads boat since I was in diapers, but this year I gotta take a stupid class and get a card.  I wasn't grandfathered in.

So what makes you think all the sudden they'll grandfather bow hunters?

FYI I got NO problems with this class being done as optional, or to maybe satisfy other states' requirements as long as it stays that way.

It is being discussed, and the Coalition has discussed it, with most being for it, but to grandfather anyone who has bowhunted previously.  Not saying that the Coalition is 100% for it, just that it has been discussed.

I was curious what the online class was like and how the test was going to be so I completed it today.  I didn't read anything, just clicked through.  At the end of each chapter is a quiz, after 10 chapters or so you have a 50 question test.  Past them all and was completed in 45 minutes or so.  I, at that point, could pay 30 bucks and get my certificate to then take a class.  I decided not to pay, hoping that my info will be saved for a later date if I ever need it.  I logged out and went back in 6 hours later and everything was saved saying pay the 30 bucks and get your card.  Didnt say it ever expired and said whenever I was ready I could come back and pay and get into a field class.  Doubt I ever will unless the state makes me.  I researched a little and found a class on the west side, but there is no way I would drive from the tricities over there for a field class.

I think you answered your own question there when you said the words "Wal-Mart Clerk". :chuckle:
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

The hassle is the hands on portion of the course.  Seemingly very few hunters in the greater Seattle area so try to find a local class.  I need to take it some day if I want to hunt elsewhere. ( except Idaho, all I had to do was sign a document stating I had been licensed for archery in Washington. ).   Still a pain, it would be nice if you could go to an archery shop and get checked out etc.

If it becomes mandatory, I wonder if my MT bowhunters card will be accepted.
It's just another way to create more money for the state.

Whatever.

I took the BE class in Enumclaw last year with my 2 boys and wife so we could Bowhunt in Alaska. Kind of lame for the experienced Bowhunter but fun to watch the Family learn. The cost at least is a one time deal. The Discover Pass irks me more.
