Cheap but good
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:46:20 PM »
I am looking for a quality scope that I can get for under $100, hopefully around $60 to $80. Any suggestions.

This is about the cheapest, "goodest" scope I can recommend:

Only problem is it's $130. You might try ebay and get a used scope. You still won't get much for under $100.

This is for a hunting rifle, correct?

Keep an eye on this site.  Used  trade in scopes.  I've bought 3 or 4 from them and all have been great.  If you sign up for their email notifications you will get a new email usually every day with what's new on their list.   I've used the Pentax line also and they've held up real well.  But I've bought some used Leupold and Burris scopes off this site for under a $100.00.

You're not going to get a "quality" (new) scope for under $100. You may get one that seems good at first, but I would not put much faith in one.

The best cheap scope you will find is a Nikon Prostaff.

Natchez Shooters Supply has a Bushnell Trophy XLT 3x9x40 with multi-X reticle on sale for $109.95.

They come with Butler Creek flip up scope covers & there's no sales tax.  Shipping is the only other cost, probably less than ten bucks from TN.

I'd keep an eye on the classifieds and buy a used one.

I'd keep an eye on the classifieds and buy a used one.

I know a bunch of younger guys that run bargain stuff and the one that has stood out time and time again has been a Bushnell Dusk to Dawn 4-12 Variable objective. 99.00 at Bi-Mart locally. I was actualy going to pick one up the other day to throw on a older Rem700 in .222 I got for a truck rifle. The rifle was already a little wore so I figured on getting optics that I wouldn't mind if they got banged around a bit.

The best cheap scope you will find is a Nikon Prostaff.

Boy...I'll second that.  Been putting Monarchs on my rifles but picked up a ProStaff a couple weeks ago and then again today.....exceptional clarity for the price.

Also, until October 6, 2012, there is a $30 rebate from Nikon on all BDC scopes.  If you like that reticle, even better deal.  Just got a Cabelas coupon offering today ($20 0ff $100-$199...etc, etc. up to $75 0ff $500), valid till tomorrow.  Thinking about buying three 3x9x40 BDC ProStaff scopes for a couple rifles I don't have scopes for.  After rebate and sale price, along with that coupon, before tax...each scope is $115.  Hard to beat.
