Do you have to pull the tooth and send it in??
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:45:49 PM »
Is is required that you pull the tooth and send it in?  In the regulations it is only listed on the spring bear page.  On the fall bear page it does not mention it.  The people I have ask say they do not do it.  A few have said they have done it and have never heard back from the game department.  If you have to, how soon does it have to be done.  I won't get my skull back untill next week from the taxidermist after he has skinned and fleshed the hide.

Thanks

Johnny

It says in the regs you are to submit it but if people aren't and havent been fined etc then it must just be another regulation with no real enforcement  :dunno: its a rule I'd follow the rules but that is just me

I want to follow the rules as well.  The question is....Do only spring bear hunters have to do it?  Why is not under the fall bear rules if you have to?  My thoughts are that they are studying the health of bears following hypernation / winter.  I don't know though.  Who is a game warden we can ask??  Last thing I want to do is break the law.  I will send it in ASAP if needed.  If not needed then I won't worry about it.

all bears fall and spring are supposed to submit.  It is because our regs are some of the most poorly written hard to read complicated regs in the country I swear they hope to confuse us all out of hunting  :bash: :bash:

I dont think you have to send it in overnight express ...lol...just get it mailed to them, its not the same as the pelt sealing thing with cats where it has a time limit attached to it

They don't contact you, your supposed to go to WDFW home page and look up your age results. I think it usually takes 6 months for them to post them up.

That is great information.  I will send it in so I can find out how old this bear was.  I am guessing 2 to 2 1/2 years old is all.

You get a yellow packet that has questions on the back and yes every bear taken needs to have that little pain in the %#@ tooth pulled.
