A day of Helo's, Hummer, practical rifle, hand gunning
« on: August 12, 2012, 10:08:44 AM »
I was invited to an invitation only practical/ tactical match Saturday on a private ranch. We had an assortment of challenges from 2 helicopters, a Humvee and a Truck. Also from static firing points, we had shots from 150 yards out to 975 yards including a mover at 450 and unknown from ~400-1000, shots into buildings and cars with obscure targets etc. The match director is a military sniper instructor and we reaped the benefits of his expertise. His course of fire was very challenging to say the least.
I tied for first place over all but slipped into second place when the times had to be used for the tie breaker.( I was a bit slow on 2- timed events)
Very pleased with my results considering I was shooting against former and current military snipers and easily the best shooters in the northwest. We also had shooters from as far away as Texas.
I shot my RBros 6.5X47 Lapua with a NF NXS 5.5-22 and Gemtec HTV suppressor. For the handgun I used my Glock 34.
A shot of the helicopters we used

Was the shoot for " Camp Patriot " ? Where was it ? I went to one about 3 months ago out of Kettle Falls. They had one helicopter to shoot out of. 74 teams with people from as far away as Panama. It was cool.

It was at an 'undisclosed' location :-) Did you shoot the Kettle Falls match? I shot that one this year as well. Lot of fun also.

No, I didn't shoot. I was invited as a " helper " by one of the Range Masters I know. It was friggin' cool.

Very cool pictures! Top picture is  the guys that build my rifles. Pearl and Hany in the boat,  also good friends and shooters.  The boat was a blast to shoot out of.  Any more pictures?

I saw Pearl walking down the road with her gun. That's how I met Hany and Pearl. I emailed her the pictures. Do you know the guy with the big ol' moustache ? He's the one that invited me. I met Rbros too and sent them pictures.

Thank you Travis. I might not have finished so close to the top had you and Jesse been there!
This match was one of if not the best I've been to. It was laid back and very challenging. I was shooter #1 and got the pre race jitters for the first time in a long while. Felt good to get competitive again.

What kind of yardage and goups were shot on the moving/flying shooting station? I'm very curious what kind a accuracy is considerd great for that kind of shooting.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Thanks for the very cool thread. I'd like to think I'm that talented, but I'm probably not even close. That young woman looks like someone I've seen in the movies.

Mr. Special T. From what I saw you only have to hit the target. Some are moving and you have to hit it x amount of times, like 5. Some yardages are out to 1000 yards + -. As for the bird, you have to hit the stationary target just like the moving targets. X for a hit and 0 for a miss on all targets. They add the scores ups at the end on the shoot and post it on Camp Patriot for results for the shooters. When we shoot steel, this is how we do it with scoring. It's not as easy as it looks. It's addicting as hell. Oh, we only get 5 shots per target and have a time limit to do it in. We do it every 3rd Sunday of the month year 'round. Jim might enlighten you more since he posted a different shoot than I did.

I've lived here for 12 years and just found out about it last year. I was shocked that I was invited. It's a place where it's a don't ask what these people do for a living. I was told these people are government contractors, aka professional snipers for the government. LE SWAT members, Navy Seals, Border Patrol, Customs etc. These are the type of people that actually can kill you in a instant. They carry themselves in a whole different manner compared to the average joe. And, they are the nicest people you could ask to be around and meet. It really makes you think about the people that are protecting us from terrorists and bad guys trying to do horrible things to our people in the USA and around the world. My hat goes off to them big time.

Huh....nope.....didn't recognize her. She looks like one bad son of ah .....  with that big ol rifle. Somebody like that with the experience, training, and equipment would simply be something to just sit and watch.

I did watch the boat all day, my area, and they were very good shooters. Both had suppressors on their guns too, way cool !!!!

Well she is a very nice young lady for sure, and an accomplished shooter.
Her boyfriend is someone other than Hany.
Hany wasn't shooting suppressed, altho my daughter and I were both shooting suppressed at the Kettle falls match you have pictures of above.
Any pictures of a guy and his daughter? She was running a hot pink fluted 6.5X47L.

S-T, the helo shots were under 100 yards. Moving at about 30 knots.  You were given very minimal time to locate and engage 1 shot per target.
Static targets from the ground were 2 hits each with 4 shots max. 1&2 round hits were worth more that the others.

Is your daughter a small blond gal ? if so, I talked to you at the moving target near the boat. Brett Webley was running the moving target. Small world. Just checked my pictures and don't have yours...... too bad. :( I thought Hany was her man. I shouldn't jump to conclusions so fast I guess.
