Done and done!

Pretty little sow......probably 125 on the paw....all black healthy dry sow. She didn't smell bad at all......smelled like a bear. I didn't see any meat at all that needed to be trimmed due to spoilage. The butcher can trim off what he shot up. Man did he punch this bear. One arm was almost severed and the opposite side rear ribs had a hole that should make you .30-06 shooters proud.  We got it skinned out, rinsed off, and back in the cooler in under an hour. Even got the tooth pulled for him. D-Rock stopped by....said hello.....and the brother in law helped out as well. The happy hunter is packed up and back on the way home. I've got a few pics coming to me via text from the brother in laws phone. I'll post them up and he can tell you the story later.

Good times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured it was just "bear" smell since it was still early. That was why I asked if any one with experience could help.

Glad you offered. That is what makes this site great.

Here is our trophy shot. He was posing with the hide (obviously) doing the hero pose. My brother in law was tying to egg him one with the "show me your killer face" pose. He played along nicely and as you can see we have a skinned out bear and a happy tired hunter in my front yard. Also, for your information, this guy is a BIG dude. the hide may look small next him but hell, so do I.

Yep...it was....fixed it.

Yes.....kind of a long evening thanks to the two growlers of beverage we had. What a fun time. Very cool to get to share a first time success hunt with a fellow hunter. That is really what it is all about. Sharing experiences, meeting like minded people, and helping out when you can. I've been around long enough that a few people know that I'm not totally full of s**t....okay....mostly. But when it comes down to it....it is all about putting a helping hand out there for those of us that need it. One of these days I'll acutally shoot one...not just help carry one out or skin one....acutally shoot one. Then, it will be my turn. Until then...well....I'm just happy to be of help when I can.

i love all the posts saying the meat should be fine.. I have had 2 bears rot on me in a couple of hours one was skinned and quarted in 1 1/2hr of killing it it and on ice the next hour..the next am the stinch was so bad it was unbearable..... no idea why that happened..another was gutted and layed open in the shade...had it loaded on a quad in 2 hrs taken home within 45 min and the whole side of it layed on was rotten! Bears are nothing like dealing with a elk or a deer.

huntnnw.....nothing to worry about on this bear. He had done a good job of gutting and cleaning it out. It was opened up all the up and through the throat. In the cooler the bear was hide side down on the ice. When taking the hide off the thicker parts of shoulder and hips were cold to the touch. I think one thing that worked in his favor was the size of the bear. If it was a big one maybe it would have taken longer to get out and cooled down. Regardless, he is going to get some good meat.

Hopefully the whole story can get posted up today. Sounded like a quick yet exciting hunt.
