I usually keep it all then hand the meat out as I see fit. I never eat an entire elk so I usually end up giving out about half.

Killer gets the rack and then the meat is split between the guys who helped pack him out.

I don't have a problem giving away some meat. Especially if I get some help packing it out, but don't expect half just because you helped me drag it out.
And I won't tolerate someone showing up at deer camp expecting half of someones animal. Just because we're all in camp together doesn't mean we all go home with meat.
If you really look around camp there are a few guys who never get animals and never put as much work into helping pack an animal out.
Just my personal feelings and observations.

I hunt with a large group and we all get meat - whether we all tag out or just a few. Trophy goes to the guy on the trigger.

You know I have never asked any of my hunting buddies about this, I should next year.
My personall opinion is shooter gets rack and hide. and some should be given to those who help pack it out. Now if I can pack it all out myself I will still probably give some to my buddies cuz I'm such a nice guy. Regardless I'll have to deal with the misses for giving any meat away.

I bring it up before the hunt how they want to do it.Usally split it with those that hunt including the cost for cut and wrap.I had a problem once a guy wanted the meat but didnt feel he should split the cost, he didnt get any meat and didnt get to hunt with us again

Just so you know Gobble Gobble, what you can carry out is what you get! But if you came up empty at the end of the season I would still give you some of what ever I shot.

Who voted that they keep the trophy and I get the meat? We leave on the day before the opener.

My hunting pards and I have always split elk meat between us, the shooter keeps the trophy. Deer, the shooter keeps the whole thing.

For elk, whoever shoots it keeps the antlers, shooter gets half then the other half is split up between packers that help.
that is how we tend to do it...if there is more than one elk then its more of a "keep the antlers and the meat is divided in half then with N+1 shares...N being the number hunters, packers etc with the shooter getting antlers, half and 2 shares, the others get one share for the animals they help with...

We normally split meat among the people who help drag the damn thing out. I have had the opportunity to pull one elk out whole all the others have been quartered and packed out. Whomever puts a pack on their back to help will get a piece of the pie.
that is the way we ROLL
