Ugly Sticks are classified as "poles".  All other fishing instruments are called "rods"  :chuckle:

I have smacked a lot of steelhead with a ugly stick. Now I have been schooled and use rods instead of meat sticks :chuckle:

I have a medium/light action shakespeare synergy (10 lb. test. It is a lot stronger than 8). The biggest fish that I have caught with it was a 17 pound king  :yike: :IBCOOL: It was awesome, and I have no doubt that it could reel in a 30 pounder. A ugly stick could probably go even bigger
