Help with hunting plan.
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:55:59 PM »
Ok Blacktail hunters need a little advice on hunting my chosen area for the 2012 modern rifle season. Planning on hunting this nice little honey hole that I'm sure is holding a couple nice bucks. Been talking to a couple of guys that have hunted it in the past and both have said they have seen the biggest blacktail they have ever seen on this mountain top. The problem seems to be that them big boys seem to disappear just before modern opens.
Questions: Where do they go? More specifically where on this hill do you think one might find them? In the timber? If so then how would you hunt them on this hill?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Before modern they are starting to head down.  Hunt the funnel of that saddle as it tappers down.  If its nice you will se them come up to that meadow to the left 9maybe) and if the weather is *censored* they will be going below 5k.  I assume that is Mt. Baker in the background....big bucks, but hard to hunt.  Another way is to hit the ridge early, glass the the south facing side of that saddle and see if you can catch a sleeper catching the morning sun.  SOUTH facing side has worked tons for me.

God luck,
Chris

I'd expect to see 29 hunters in that honey hole (and counting)  :chuckle:

My first piece of advice would be to start blacking out the coordinates before you post google earth pictures on here.

Well, lots of bucks even small one change tbier patterns or become harder to find as the season grows closer. Even from sept. To oct. My guess will be if left alone by oct they will bed around daylight as high as they can in the timber if they bust, threy can bail straight down or over the top.

I have hunted that area in the past and the deer seem to transition into the North slope in the brush to bed and feed in the dark. Good luck!!!

The thickest, nastiest, darkest, *censored*hole...  That is where they go.   Good luck!

After opening day I would move slightly downhill and hunt the timber.
