Cougar track?
«
on:

Been out bear hunting and came across this track today. I know it's not the best pic as the track is a few weeks old. Just wondering if anyone can tell if it's a cougar or a bear? I have seen bobcats in this area but it seems too big to be a bobcat. Looks too narrow and deep for a bear.
Thanks for the input, as I'm sure there are people on here who have seem a million different tracks. I'm still new to figuring out the animals.
What are tricks to differentiate between a coyote, bobcat, cougar and bear?

Looks like a bobcat to me, the size looks pretty small for a cougar. I've only seen one set of cougar tracks in the wild and they were much about twice that size. Was there claw marks at all? If there was I would almost say its coyote, but no where near an expert.

I agree, definitely can't tell from the picture. If its a cougar it's a very small one.

Judging by all the rocks, it looks to be relatively hard ground. If so, id bet its neither.
Honestly looks way to old to tell much. I'd say as much as months ago. Hard to tell without having eyes on though.
Cats walk around with their claws detracted. Dogs will have their nail marks present.
Big cats have a decent stride to them, more so than yotes, and bob cats stride is not a whole lot bigger than a house cat.
Cats pads will disperse their weight a lot as well, making it hard to see their track.

Can't tell from the picture. But, with my expert career,
. I'm leaning towards a cougar. The reason being is : Bobcat tracks are right around and inch, 1x1. Bobcat tracks are a little bigger that a house cats, maybe a tiny bit bigger, but not much more. Cougar tracks are about 3'- 3'1/2 inches wide and maybe 3 inches long. That's a general measurement. Basically, Bobcat tracks aren't really any bigger than a coyote track. I know some will disagree, but, I've seen tons of Bobcat tracks around here, so I kinda have a good idea, because I am an expert..............
