Bow Hunting Funnies!
« on: August 19, 2012, 04:28:26 PM »
Who here has ever had some kind of bow hunting story that you can laugh about now, but didn't think it was that funny at the time?

Mine was: My friend and I were wanting to hunt bears for the first time ever, and I wanted to take mine with my bow. We had no plan, other than to strike out were we seen a bear during the spring...I told you we didn't have a plan..haha. Anyway, as we were walking up this long step cut road, to my left, in my peripheral vision, something big...and black came busting out of the brush right at me...!!! I turned to my right and knocked my friend over while trying to run the other way...screaming like a little girl. I went about 40 yards when I turned around to see my buddy in hysteric's...and the black cow that he was standing by. I swore it was trying to kill me...haha.

OK back in mid or late eighty's a buddy from Cali came up to go bow hunting with me. On the way to the drainage i wanted to check out we drove up to this info board about how to tell the difference between a coyote and a wolf. Must of planted a seed in his head. To make this story short a pack of bears hounds on trail started going his way and he took of at a dead run going downhill screaming his bloody head off the hole way back to the truck. Laughed so damn hard thought I would bust. Took us almost two hours to find his bow. Still to this day he doesn't think its funny at all and I still cant hardly tell the story without bustin a gut.

actually, mine was yesterday..  past 4 days I have been beating the brush(and the hell out of me) trying to track down a bear with in bow range. Also yesterday was the first time this year I have had a hunting partner for bear. So we hike up this logging road where I had seen a bear 2 days before but couldn't catch up with him, when we heard something moving in the bottom of the creek bed. so I put my buddy on over watch so that if I jumped the bear out he could drop it, if not I would poke while stalking through. I head back down the road a few hundred yards and make my drop into this thick, over grown creek bed. Once at the bottom I jump across to the far bank. About when I land I hear a grunt, then brush braking. Out comes charging a huge bull moose. And the chase is on, how me with two bad knees out ran the bull I have no clue. My buddy was on the ground laughing as I came flying over the hill zig-zaging in and out of trees. Low and behold the bull stopped charging after about 25 yards, and my butt scrambled 300 yards in a all out sprint never looking back. Apparently he got a nice view of the whole show, and wished he brought the video camera.  :dunno:

A couple of elk seasons ago, my hunting partner and I spotted some cows in a meadow.  It was getting late in the day but we decided to give it a go and see if we could get a shot off before we lost the daylight.  I covered a 100 yards on hands and knees and belly crawling and periodically peeked up to see if our quarry was still unaware of our presence.  So far, so good.

Light was fading fast and the elk were still blissfully feeding.  80 yards... 60 yards... 50 yards...40 yards!  Nock an arrow and prepare for the shot... check on the elk again.  They're still there, but mere silhouettes now, DAMN, too dark.  But the elk haven't moved.  We creep closer and our "elk" turn out to be a root ball of a stump!  It was a beauty of a stalk though!
