Just take it to the smith of your choice, tell him what brake you want on it. When he calls, go pick it up. Done deal, fairly simple process.

Remington reduced were lousy in my daughters 7-08.  Roll your own with H-4895, they have reduced load data on their website.  Good Luck

If you decide to have a brake installed, and you plan to hunt with this rifle, get a side discharge brake. A brake that has ports at  360 degrees, while great for shooting off a bench,  will throw up grass, dirt, leaves etc.  in most hunting situations. A brake with side ports only are more hunter friendly.

Both brakes will work great, I prefer the Vais Arms style brake for a hunting rifle or a non large magnums. I have a assortment of both. I prefer the "Muscle Brake" Side discharge by Center Shot Rifles for .338 bore diameter or bigger, they reduce recoil in the bigger magnum better than the Vais. You can also opt for a Harrels Brake in the rough, they only run about 30.00 bucks and your smith can finish it out when he installs it, I have had a Harrells Brake installed on a .375 Ultra and it worked well.

This is a 4 port" Muscle Brake " by Center Shot Rifle, it is a excellent brake. You can order the brake through Jim at Center Shot and have your smith install it. They also do the same brake in the round.

This brake bellow has a extra port cut in the top and a tension screw done by Benchmark. I have the same brake on my .338 Ultra Magnum, less the extra port and the set screw.

How much would a gunsmith charge to port the barrel on my .308?  I want to lessen the recoil for one of my sons.

Just my .02) Try a limb saver recoil pad first, I put one on my 300WM after seeing a few youtube vids and it made all the difference in the world and dont need to spend the coin on a brake.

They absorb the snap real well, I think I paid $35.

Porting and muzzle brakes are completely different creatures. Muzzle brakes reduce recoil which in turn reduces muzzle jump/flip. Porting slightly reduces recoil but it's main purpose is to reduce muzzle jump/flip.

I used to use Magna-Port muzzle brakes way back before I changed to Vais Arms, this is a Magna-Port brake. Magna-Port installed this brake on a PSS back in 91 or so.

Put a slipon limbsaver pad on over the regular pad will drastically reduce recoil,while hunting i don't notice recoil or noise. shooting off bench is where you will get most recoil.off hand at a animal kid may never notice recoil.

Had thought about that but was kind of concerned about length of pull for a kid being an issue.  May look into it anyway

if you test the length of pull on the kid.. make surehe is wearing his hunting clothing,,   makes a big difference especially in a kid....
