Okanogan bear - Curious what you think about his size?(Bear is now Down)

What does that bear measure from nose to his butt ?? Did you guys measure it ? the best way is to measure it while it is not skinned by placing a tape on his nose and measuring to the base of his tail ...thats the true way of getting the exact measurement ....most guys skin them them lay it flat and stretch the sheet out of it then say all I got me a 7 footer

When most people see a bear it is almost always a 300 pounder ...Hard to tell from that picture but it is not over 170 ...that I do know ...another thing I will point out is the bears on the eastside seem to grow bigger and over on the wetside the average bear is around 200 lbs .. thats just fact ...when you get one pushing 300 then you have a trophy ... Thats a nice bear and I would of whacked it .... Never was a trophy hunter and never will be .... meat in my freezer is all I care about 

So your typical eastside mountain bear is bigger than your typical west side coastal bear? I'd have to disagree.

well we didnt measure him and we didnt weigh him...dumb rookies...and obviously we didnt even know how to hang a bear . But my buddy did get him skinned fairly quick and boned him out this morning. I dont know if its the same bear or not but you can see in this picture he does have the brown nose as in the first pictures and he came out just one draw (maybe 500 yds or less) from where we had seen the first bear. that being said there was alot of bear sign all over and I dont know if normally a boar runs with others. In some of the pictures it looks like the bears tail is almost to the floor of the shop and so just guessing if you turned its head staight up it would be about what 5 feet? maybe just a hair over.

Nice! My buddy and I endured the heat this weekend in search of a bear but it didn't happen. Did run into tons of berries though. Good job!

Oh I don't think anyone is giving you to much crap Its a very nice bear for sure. Bear's are a funny critter to judge. I will always post a lot lower weight on my bears because I feel I have to tip the scale. 90% of people way way over guess the weight of a bear. They are big a bulky and hard to deal with. Which makes them a pain to pack I have seen more people kill 150lb bears and call it 250-300lbs then I ever care to talk about. If your guess is around 5' or so, I would still stick with 150-170lbs.

The point is it's all just bear talk. We are all happy you whacked it and one less fawn killer running around!!!

I a disagree as well, i know the record came from easten wa as far as skull size. But i think the west side of the pct has more big bears then eastside of it

Looks like a good bear to me.  Thanks for posting your story and your buddy's success.  Don't mind the bear judging experts on this site, as everybody seems to under judge others and over judge theirs.

I agree with what everyone is saying about how easily bears are over-judged on their size.  I'm not experienced at sizing bears so when my cousin shot a 6' bear a few years back and I would have SWORN it was 300+ lbs when we were in the woods.  We weighed the hide/head/paws at about 47 lbs and it was 145 lbs hanging meat at the butcher.. + guts = ~220 total.  Good bear but nowhere near 300 lbs.
